I am starting to think based on the posts recently that somewhere out there exists A lucky, two way shot shooting, jump cue wielding casanova who has been beating some of you guys out of your paychecks and then stealing your girlfriends.
The jump cue is here to stay, learn to use it or don't it's your choice. I can use mine quite well. I can also full stick jump. If you don't want me to use the jump cue then it's in your corner. PLAY BETTER SAFES. If you stick me to balls the jump cue stays in my case. If you think a good safe is just putting a ball between me and the object ball you need to go put in some serious practice time on your safety play.
Two way shots are not just warm and fuzzy for lower level players. There are a ton of shots that are played as 2 ways that you don't even think about.
You ever hear an announcer say that a player missed it on the pro side on a thin cut on the end rail. They shot to make sure they made the ball or overcut it so that the ball came back onto the head rail and didn't leave a look at the pocket. If a good player shoots a cross side bank they usually like to hold the ball. That way if they miss they have a real good chance of it crossing over and going into the other side.
Matter of fact 1 pocket, which everyone usually agrees is the best test of skills between players, is a game of almost entirely 2 way shots. Short rack banks played properly is a game of 2 way shots as well at certain stages in the game.
The penalty for a miss is high enough already. You get a turn at the table. Take your turn at the table and do something with it that your opponent won't like. Don't just sit and whine that you think they just got lucky when they actually may have executed better than you are giving them credit for.
Most players love winning and having their opponent think they got lucky. Means they are gonna have a repeat customer.
Luck happens in every game and in basically every aspect of our lives. Think about that the next time you pass an accident on the freeway and think how lucky you are to have not left your house 10 minutes earlier and been a part of that mess. Someone said that pool can be equated to the game of life. You get some rolls both good and bad. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose even when you didn't do anything wrong. You experience joy and sadness and the gambit of other emotions.
Lady luck always picks a side but she is fickle. Sometimes she is with you and sometimes she is against you. She can even swap sides between 2 shots.
And for you guys that say you never get lucky I will leave you with this. And as far as 10ball being resurrected from the ashes because of the luck factor of 9ball I call bullshit. 10ball was resurrected because of the 9ball rack and the huge difference in 9ball breaks between players. 10ball is harder to break and control the pattern layout off the break. Putting 10ball packages together is way harder than they are to put together in 9ball.
