Jumping with a non jump cue

Only talking about non jump cues.

I have an old SW and I can't jump with that cue to save my life.

I have used other non jump cues and been able to get the cue ball off the table a fair (good enough for me to get over the edge of an OB) amount.


Does anyone have thoughts on why I can't do this small amount of jumping with my SW?

Is it all in my technique or is there something more difficult with trying to jump with a SW type cue?

It could be something simple like the type of tip on your SW

I used to use medium layered tips on my southwest and could not jump with it at all. Recently i switched to harder ki-tech tips and can jump no problem with it now. Not the same as a jump cue, but can still clear a ball from some distance.
