Jumping with regular cue

Hi!

Recently I was downloading some short pool clips from the net. On one it was Mr. Strickland performing a short jumpshot. He even managed to get a good draw to get position onto the next ball (would be better if one ball (5) was not in the way).

But remember, he did it with his regular playing cue, not some funny looking jumpcue!!! How does he do it with such fine control?

Or was it his break cue?...I'm not very good when it comes to cue recognition...

And no, he did not use finger extensions of any kind and his bridge hand was not on the rail which makes things even more difficult!

Source: http://www.matchroomsport.com/clips.htm

It's under Pool, Mosconi Cup 2000, Clip 3 (earl making several pots)...just 1.6 meg, worth the download time if you want to see proper jump shot!

p.s.

I could not perform this shot without the short jumpcue even if someone gave me 100 attempts. Could you?

Didn't hurt...

That jump doesn't look difficult at all. I expected to see him going over the full ball...

That said, there are lots of variables to jumping: ball type, cloth type, tip type. Not to mention those presented by the player...

(I think you can) Visit the Bungeejumper or Sledgehammer website to see some crazy jumpstuff.

So HOW good would Earl be if he used a jump cue as well. He would be making some jump shots that really are unbelieveable.

Good thing we are not still playing with the mace - today's pool cues sure look funny compared to those things........

"real pool" is about putting the balls in the holes and controlling your rock - with anything handy. I bet you would let another player play with a potato if you thought you could win that way. But if they win - ban the potato!

:-)) Love it.

The cue ball clearly had the height to easily go over the full ball.

Don't forget that he made that shot under heavy pressure with tv cameras around, the crowd not really in your favour...a foul would give european team a big chance to get back into the game. And a nice looking referee surely makes it desperately difficult to concentrate...:)

It all looks easy...that's the beauty of it. Now I understand why Earl wants to see jump cues banned.

I've seen many people who are pretty ordinary amateurs do nice jump shots with a Bunjee.Yes, even I can do it...:)
