What's harder, jumping or kicking?
I see that some of you are trying to justify the ban of jump cues or to allow jump cues by trying to say that one shot is harder then the second.
In my opinion both take a lot of skill and practice to perfect and in any case it shouldn't be the factor whether the short cue should be baned or not.
One issue that all of you neglected in that debate is that pool is a two dimensional game BUT when elevating the butt of the cue and making the cue ball leave the bed of the table, the game becomes a 3 dimensional game.
When adding another dimensional, the game becomes more complex.
Bob Jewett wrote in one of his articles in BD about the K.I.S.S approach to the game - "Keep It Simple Stupid" so if by jumping the game is not simple anymore then it can't be easier....
I really don't understand what's the issue of some people with the short stick. Here is another thing to consider:
The reason for making it short was to reduce weight, I'm sure in these days a full length cue can be manufactured from specials materials that will weigh like an average jump cue (if not now then definitely in a few years), add a phenolic tip and it'll be easier to jump just as well as with a short cue. There are already some jump cues that longer then 41 inches (the first jump cues were longer as well).
So maybe it's the weight of the cue that needs to be limited and not it's length OR maybe it's the tip that should be limited to leather.
