Thank's for the oportunity to explain some of the interworkings at the Derby. Some may remember my attempt to put 9fts. upstairs {3 piece slates were used}, especially remembering the one pocket match between Cooney and Walton. However a couple things happened that prevents me from using 9's anymore. The amount of set up time demands that I use the one piece slates and getting them upstairs would be Quite a challenge. Also the motel was concerned about weight problems using 9fts as they much heavier than the 7's............................................................
The coin drop on a 7ft. is very good, but a 9ft. on time is much better! I don't mind saying the Bar area is the cash cow at the Derby! I'm trying to put more 9's downstairs in a room between the restaurant and the bar, possibly 5 more. There's also a couple small rooms ajoining the bar which I may get the motel to let me use for something. I'm kinda outgrowing the site. I don't really want to move. It's taken a long time to establish the relationship I have and I really like alot of what they have to offer,,,,close to the airport etc....I've even turned them into a sponser getting a rebate off rooms. Without them the Derby couldn't add the amount it does................................ Since I can't use 9's upstairs the coin drop from the 7's and the gate money downstairs from the league players allow me to help as many top players with rooms and entry fees as I do. It's my job as a promoter to get the top players to the Derby for the short stops to try and beat them a match. I want average players to have a chance and have them consider it an honor to play the legends of the game. From the growth we are experiencing, some must be seeing it the same way.........................I'm happy to report everything was up this year except the gate. It was considerably less than last year, but that doesn't change anything.. The gate has never been what most other tournaments enjoy due to the low entry fee and short races. This turns many of my would be spectators into players. This is something I'm very proud of ......................................I really appreciate constructive comments. I don't want to use the swimming area for pool tables. Maybe someone on the forum has an idea of a better use. Let me know you're thoughts on this forum....or.....email me greg1849@aol....or....call me on my cell 812-989-6665...............thanks,

A room full of 9 foots upstairs may be impossible but what about just 2 or 3? Anything would help. I think all you needed this year was maybe 5-6 more 9 foots and you would have been ok.
