I just got home and I'm extremely tired. I played a lot of pool this week and had a great time. I got to play some of the people from the forum, thanks to our own table in the AZ room. We have some good people on here. For those of you that I met in the room, it was very nice to put a face and an actual personality to the screen name.
As far as the tournament went for me, I got a little better draw this year to get started. I won my first 3 matches in the bank event and can't recall who beat me in round 4. Won round 5 and got eliminated in round 6 by Richie Richeson. He's a great player and we had a very good match even though I lost.
In the one pocket, I won the first 3 and then drew Shannon Daulton. I don't mean this to sound bad toward the tournament, the staff, or Shannon. I was made to wait 45 minutes past the start time for him to show up. I had never played Shannon, and was thrilled to have the opportunity to play one of the greatest players from the U.S. I got beat and then drew Ralf Souquet the next round. After being down 2-0. I came back to tie the match 2-2. I should have won this match, but got too aggressive when the score was 6-5 him. I mishit a 2 rail bank and it cost me the match. I learned a lot from that match. And as a side note to the one pocket matches, Shannon and Ralf are great competitors, but both were absolute gentlemen during the matches. I look forward to a chance to play them again.
Wed. night I signed up for an 8-ball tourney on the bar tables across the street. $3000 added, so I got in and struggled. I barely won my first match. I played pretty bad thru all my matches but managed to win until I came across Josh Johnson. The kid plays real good. He beat me 5-0. I got a little of my concentration back after that. I played a couple of good matches in the losers bracket and managed to get to the finals of the losers side. They then informed me In-Demand would film the semi's and finals for Fox Sports. I got back in gear and won the semi final 5-2 i think. Then beat Josh the first set of the finals only to lose 5-4 in the last set. He broke and ran out the Hill game. I think I ran out 11 racks in 3 races to 5.
Last night I watched a little of Johnny Archer and Shane Vanboening with Shane getting the call 7and call 8 200 jellys a game. Lot's of side bets too. I don't know what happened but what I saw was great pool. I left to go back across the street to watch Corey and Jesse Bowman match up on the bar-box. It didn't happen. Rumor has it, Corey was asking for the 8.
I bought Grady's book and started to read it. It is very graphic with some talk of sex. Don't expect it sugar-coated. I have enjoyed reading it so far and it has some great photo's. Thank you to Grady's wife Randi, for helping watch the room during the days. Thank you Grady for all the great stories. They are some great people.
