Hi All

I just picked up this used Dominiak at my local club. Anyone else have this model? It's signed and numbered 011 and is probably 10 or 12 years old. Nice curly maple and cocobolo. Great shape, hits a ton with a HUGE pin. Has the early radial segmented shaft and white phenolic? joint. If you know this model I would appreciate some more info, value etc. Thanks!

Dominiak cues are not in the Third Edition Blue Book.

I saw this first about 10-12 years ago. A buddy, now deceased, bought one. I am thinking it was in the 350 range if my memory is working right.

I heard a couple cue makers complaining about the methods the people putting the blue book together were using which might account for them not being in the 3rd edition. Something to the effect the deadlines were random, and sudden.

The model is 007. A beautiful old school look IMO. I think the original production run was limited to 150. Bill may have extended that due to high demand though. Enjoy.

Hello DrawString, I know Bill Dominiak and when saw your cue I thought I would ask Bill about the cue for you.

Drawman623 is right it is a Model 7 as Bill calls it for short (officially your model is 007 - now all the models with numbers are WDXXXX like WD1008). 007 has nothing to do with James Bond it just happened to be the next model in the line.

Bill said, and I quote from the email he sent me after I sent him the link to the images you posted ... "The cue is not cored. It has a tenon , hard maple. We built maybe 20 of that cue, no more. It's aprox 10-12 years old."

Just to clarify the not cored part - All the butts from Dominiak have either fully radial laminated 8-piece maple butt (like the sweet 16 model) or a full length 8-piece radial laminated maple core 3/4" diameter (like the WD1009). A cue like yours has a tenon that connects the lower butt end part to the forearm part of the butt. The tenon style construction is the traditional method that cue builders use. The full length core style construction is supposed to be a stronger construction. Bill started using this type construction in 2001. When Bill identifies one of his cues he always makes this distinction because he is one of the first cue builders to start using the full length core style construction. This does not mean that your cue is any less valuable. Note also that Bill uses the term hard maple - hard maple is maple without figuration in it like curly, birdseye, or quilt. Curly, birdseye, or quilted maple is considered to be soft maple and is not desirable for the construction on the inside of the cue. It is only desirable for aesthetics.

As for value, I would say if the cue is in very good condition it is worth approximately $300.

If you don't mind could you take a full length shot of the butt for me and then post it as I am trying to build a catalog of all the Dominiak Models. If possible try to get the image as focused as possible. Eventually, the catalog will be approved by Dominiak and added to the Blue Book.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Drawman and Hard english. Great information! I spoke with Bill and he suggested I send him the cue for a second shaft, and a refinish on the whole cue. The but is in excellent shape so I'm not sure if I want to have it refinished. Bill also confirmed that he made no more than 20 of these, so I guess this is 11 of 20. Not a real valuable cue but a great player! I would like to keep it original as I heard the signature and number may be removed on some other post here about refinishing. I will send you (Hard english) a good full length photo. Thanks again for your help guys!

No problem DrawString, just post the link to the image here on this thread whenever you get around to shooting it. I will check back from time to time to retrieve it.
