Just my opinion

Ask yourself, why does Shane post here?

Clearly, he doesn't visit the forum to learn about spot shots. He's not here to make new friends. He doesn't log in to read about himself, he can pick up billiards digest for that.

He comes here to be accesible to his fans.

Having said that, all of his posts here have been positive. He doesn't come here to criticize, whine or complain. He handles himself with class and dignity.

He should only be treated the same way in return.

Another poster wrote he was sure shane will laugh it off. Perhaps this time. Most pros who have come here, no longer do. I imagine shane will do the same eventually. It will be interesting (and sad) to read the post that is the cause of that.

I understand that some readers may have been frustrated, as I was, to be inundated with all those ridiculous shane posts. But it is equally, if not more foolish, to make a tastless post, at shanes expense, to prove that point.

Regarding the congruity of professional pool players and those of other professional sport or celebrity professions, the old addage I believe is, if people aren't saying something about you, or if you aren't in the tabloids you aren't doing much, or your career might be over. So like has been expressed in a couple of other posts, its a nice gesture to try and defend a professional athlete from criticism, but its also an absurd endeavor.

Ok ok, seriously - SVB just won the US Open. He's got a $50k paycheck, a big trophy and the world's attention. Do you REALLY think this forum bogs his mind?

I wonder what kind of shoes he wears.
well said Jude, SVB can laugh at the world right now! Hell, if all I have to do is put up with a little negativety from haters and jealous wannabee pool players in order to be able to call myself the world champion and US Open champion, sign me up!!! Much congratulations to Shane on a job well done...

That's the thing... He can win just as many championships without AZ. Hopefully it doesn't bother him, but why risk it? JMO. I thought NYC Cue Dude's post was spot on.

Laughing At Ourselves.

Most if not all of the over-the-top posts about Shane's prowess and personals were actually a comedic attempt to make fun of ourselves.

The humor is that fans from any sport can seem sort of silly at times when fussing over their sports heroes and I think most of the posters were having fun laughing at themselves as a group, not Shane.

I could be wrong.

Shane, (and I'm betting) who's pushing a quarter of a century still has some funny bones left in him and has had to laugh at some of the hyperbole in the threads.

Indeed. It would be funny if he went thru some of them and replied to them..except for the wiping one...that would be a lil' weird:D

I find it interesting that people are so compelled to write all those questionalbe things about SVB. Would they be doing the same if it were Francisco, Efren, Ralph, Johnny or John Schmidt who won the open?

I'm just thankful there's at least one American player who can win a major tournament these days!

No, I agree with you; I don't think negative things said on AZ will affect his game. I just hope it doesn't have an effect on whether or not he posts here either. ;)

I think that it is deeper than the idea of him needing think skin..I am not the smartest man that post on here...but i will say this...i think that as a community when excuse so much. Things that are sociably unexceptable we forgive...we chalk it up to its okay, its their right...regardless of the hurt that lies behind the words that people say...i am not against free speech...haha but i think it comes down to a moral mirror..we all need to look in that mirror before we speak..even if we are trying to get our point across...we have to look to help and uplift one another more that ridicule and poke fun of

JMO and 2cents
