ok now definately a movie where whoever made it has no idea about pool, atleast pool hall junkies knew what a bridge looked like, this movie sucked what a waste of life

uh, oh! I think I had that on my Amazon wish list! Hope nobody bought it for me, but I know there is a DVD under the tree... Hope it isn't Stickmen!!

Thanks for the heads-up!

The movie aint THAT bad...it has some cute chicks in it LOL

The pool sucks...yes...horrible...but to me it was entertaining at least. I don't own it, but I do have PHJ, TCOM, and the Hustler on DVD.

Course I really would rather watch Eastwood in a western ;)

Shorty

Please!!!

There is nothing wrong with this movie! It was hilarious! People always criticize pool movies because of the bridge or the actor couldn't stroke the ball or some technical flaw. I personally think that is the dumbest reason to dislike a pool movie. I mean stop comparing the pool movies and give each movie a review on it's own merit. I agree if the shooting is so bad that it takes away from the rest of the movie then it's a bad movie

This movie does not do that. If you watch the movie for the enjoyment of seeing people like us getting caught up in odd situations and it revolving around the game, then by all means laugh and the silliness and have a ball. Pool movies don't have to be so real life all the time. Sometime there is some creativity involved and people might actually just make them for enjoyment.

I'll get off the soap box for now...but think about it.

It does really suck, but that is immaterial. We MUST have every pool movie.:)

But the movie does suck beyond just consideration of the pool playing in it.

I think you are being a little harsh. Yes, the pool playing in the movie sucked. Not to mention, the format of the "tournement" is a race to one.

However, the movie really was not that bad. I found it enjoyable, not great, but worth watching - predictable, but fun. In fact, IMHO, I think is was a better movie than Poolhall Junkies.

So, for those getting the movie for Christmas, don't despair.

Sure the pool playing sucked, but I thought the movie was hilarious! I've watched it several times. Have it on DVD on didn't consider it a waste of money. Hell, it's entertainment. If I want to just watch great pool, I'll get in my stack of AccuStats tapes!

Later,
Bob

I haven't seen the flick yet, but I may just pick it up and check it out over the Christmas holidays.

Recently, I met Hall of Famer Lou Butera. Though I knew he has had several acting roles in movies, I did not know that he was the technical advisor of "Racing with the Moon," which is one of my favorite all-time pool scenes.

He also played himself in "The Baltimore Bullet." Here's a link to his other movies: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0124748

Though his picture is not depicted on the IMDB website, I have provided a recent photo of Lou Butera below!:p

I didn't think it was very good at all. I'm not just talking about the pool. The acting was bad and the plot was ridiculous. Of course, I didn't really like Pool Hall Junkies either but it was a masterpiece compared to Stickmen.

These guys who are supposed to be hot shots go around in a high stakes tournament where they play ONE game (with a partner) against another team. I can't remember the last time I played a partner game of 8 ball where both partners on both teams got to the table in the same game (multiple times). Ok, pool the pool doesn't have to be good for the movie to be good. IMHO, nothing makes up for it though.

It's also one that you're not going to want to have any kids around because there are some pretty graphic adult scenes.

On a scale of 1 to 10...I'd give it a 2 but only because it had some pool in it.

Just my opinion.

this movie was horrible i dont know what you are talking about, in one of the scenes the 8 ball flys up in the air and straight into the pocket, its just goofy and the plot behind it was absolutely horrible, i agree with whoever said pool hall junkies looks like a master piece infront of this movie because it does. when is someone going to make a good pool movie like hustler or color of money, pool hall junkies was good too i think

Either no sense of humor, or people just don't get it.

The Hustler and The Color of Money are Dramas. Stickmen is a comedy.

See this is what I'm talking about...the movie makers throw in the eight-ball scene he is referring too as a spoof on another film. It was supposed to be funny as all get out, and some people see it as a unrealistic. Ummm, it was supposed to be unrealistic; it was made to make you laugh.

THIS PARAGRAPH ALONE IS A SPOILER FOR THE FILM SO BE WARNED:
If you have seen any of the Matrix movies or any of the films that did this kind camera trick, you should have found the eight-ball scene hilarious. I couldn't believe they threw it in there. It was a classic on poking fun at the genre.

Some people can't find or see "humor" because everything must be realistic. I'm not flaming at anyone in particular, I'm just making an observation. This is a comedy not a portrayal of a real life pool player. BTW, if you agree with the fact that unrealistic movies are not entertaining, then don't see the Japanese pool film "The Desperate Prodigal". The Martial Arts spoofing movies of old come to life in the pool shooting in that movie; that stuff will disturb you!

I will admit that I saw a movie called Lake Placid and thought it was one of the dumbest horror movies of recent times. Then a friend of mine told me that it really wasn't a horror movie. She said it was a sarcastic comedy and I of all people should like it if I just took the time to listen to the dialog. I watched it again, reluctantly and had to agree. That was one of the funniest sarcastic movies I had seen in a long time! So I learned this lesson watching Lake Placid, maybe you can learn it watching Stickmen.

I talked to her about all this and she just said this to me. "It is OK to love pool, but it is OK to laugh about it too."

... yes, but not a very funny comedy. I don't remember laughing even once, I just remember being bored.

Hey, don't get me wrong. If you think the movie wasn't funny, the acting is bad, or the pool was bad, by all means give your opinion.

I was just trying to point out that comparing the movie to the others isn't a fair reason for criticizing it. I mean if you are going to review it, then cover the whole thing.

Everyone should voice their opinions. I love free speech. Yeah for the internet! But just like me, if you voice it, it can and more times than not will, be scrutinized.

Besides all that garbage. I have to admit I found the movie funnier the second time through. Probably because I was expecting to see a pool movie the first time through. :D ;) :D

Maybe in a couple of months, I'll try it again and see if gets funnier. ;)

Stickmen was filmed in New Zealand. Other countries have different ideas on what is likeable, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was a big hit over there.

And you do? hahahahahaha

Geeze, I thought the main character in pool hall junkies looked like he was chopping wood. You can't be serious. :D :D

Not for nothing W W, Mars can play a little, atleast his bio done in Billiard Digest (I think), made it sound like he's a little more than An APA SL5.

I don't know, I'm a SL5, what are you W W???

I'm not trying to stasrt some thing, but at least people have seen him on film, what have you done???
