My advise to you is to try a number of different tips. Each tip will give you a different feel, hit and action in the cue ball. This seems to be an individual preference. I would suggest a laminated tip and you normally get what you pay for in quality. You can always put one on and try it out… at first you may not like it, because its new and different, but later get use to it and like it. If you put one on and give it a far trial period and still don’t like it, you can always cut it off… Words I once read quoted by Laraina Bobit :) … but seem to hold true here as well.

Although it is surely a subjective judgement, if I had to pick a single tip to play with, it would be a Moori III medium. If you like a harder tip, then a Moori III Hard (Quick).

The one Drivermaker tested in a wind tunnel, rockwell hardness tester and Boeing stress test.
I like Moori and Kamui tips. Everest is fine as well.

I don't do that with tips...it's Hercules Hard...no questions asked, no second guesses.

Btw, I don't like any of the tips you use.
 
LePro, I've used them my whole life. The only disclaimer I need to make is I have my own lathe, so I can "clean" them up whenever I feel like it! They seem to be a little soft at first, need shaping, then they play great for about 4 months, then get a little icy (too compressed)........Gerry
 
The best hitting tip I've ever played with are the non-layered hard water buffalo tips. The problem with them is they literally crack way too often and I got sick of replacing them. I now used layered water buffalo tips, which mushroom slightly after they are first put on, and after you get rid of the mushroom they never lose shape again, and last forever. One of these tips almost lasts me a year, playing on average 7 hours per week.

Well that's all I can AFFORD because that chick busted me, just like the one before her did. And this time I dumped her, and she called me the next morning and tried to dump me, even though it was already over! WTF! At least I didn't buy her a $650 digital camera 2 weeks before we broke up like I did for the last one. Oh great now you just reminded me of when I sold one of the nicest cues I ever had so I could have extra cash when me and my other ex went to vegas. The guy I sold it to said he would hold on to it for a while and I told him I would buy it back off him for $50 more (I needed the money to ensure we would have a blast in vegas), a week after I got back from vegas. That bastard went and sold it for LESS than I sold it to him to some chump who can't make a ball WHILE I was in vegas! Man I miss that cue. It's all womens' fault! :D
