If you hit reply in the bottom of the individual post (not at the bottom of the page) it will quote that post in your reply. To only have the relevant parts in your post, just delete what you don't want. Anything between the (QUOTE=Rude Dog) and (/QUOTE) will be the displayed as the quote. (Note, I replaced the [] with () in the above code). I like to put ... where I removed parts of the original quote so there is some indication I changed it, like I did in Rude Dog's post.

This does make the forums cleaner and concise. Its also a good idea to preview the post to make sure it came out right. I see many posts that contain quotes on here, but something was done wrong, and the quote is not bold and does not have the proper header. This happens when people delete the code inside of the brackets.

Probably just because it's easier. The entire message is pulled over to the new post and unless you edit it, it's all there. Editing takes a little work, that's all. Or, maybe some people aren't aware of how to edit the quotes. Unless it's an exceptionally long post, I don't see the problem.

Don't forget there is a "preview post" button you can use to make sure everything is correct before you click the "submit reply" button.

click on the icon to the right of the "reply" icon at the bottom right of the last post. it's called "quick reply" and does not pull in the quote.

the reply icon says "reply with quote".

this bugs the hell out of me, scrolling through all the quotes.
