K55 & K66

For years until WW2 Brunswick Carom/Pool tables used 'All-Natural rubber' (from trees).

The first rubber to succeed that with the closest 'Angles' to the '1845' rubber was K43, it was a little faster because it was a 'Synthetic' material!

Brunswick introduced K66 for the 'Gold Crown' line of pool tables.

The angles were significantly 'Shorter' than K55 and 'Faster'!

That's what I know.
Gold Crowns use K55, not K66 cushions. Gold Crown I & II's use Brunswick Monarch Superspeed cushions which is neither a K55 or K66 cushion, the Monarch is closest to a K55 but not an exact match, that's why those of us who have early Gold Crowns need to have the sub-rails modified for K55 cushions as the Monarch profile is no longer made.

I recently was asked to replace rubber on a GCIII. K55 on the left, SS in the middle, K66 on the right. It was my understanding that K55 is the replacement for SS...

I'm not sure if early GCIII used monarch superspeeds like the GCII or not. If they did the subrails will need to be modified to use K55 cushions. Their is no direct replacement for the old Monarch Superspeeds.

I'm not sure where or who you got your information from, but Gold Crowns never came with K66 cushions. The Gold Crown I and II came with Monarch SuperSpeed cushions which were techniclaly a K55 profile (same angle as today's K55's) but slightly smaller; definitely NOT a K66 profile. Gold Crown III-VI (including your GCV) came with Brunswick SuperSpeed cushions which are most certainly K55 profile and the Gold Crown VII comes with Artemis Intercontinental No. 66 which are also K55 profile.

The term "Diamondized" has nothing to so with changing the cushion profile and everything to do with extending the subrails and recutting the pockets to the geometry Diamond uses. While this does require new cushions, the profile remains what came on the Gold Crown originally: K55.
It’s my understanding that Diamondizing a table changes the cushions to Artemis and fixes the rail angle to correctly accommodate the new specification cushions. Also the pocket angles are changed to 141 degrees with the rail extensions. GC4 and newer only need the Artemis and rail extensions.

Correct, and the cushions Diamond used are Artemis Intercontinental No. 66 which are a K55 profile, same as the old Monarch SuperSpeed cushions (these were slightly smaller but still considered a K55) and current Brunswick SuperSpeeds. Diamondizing doesn't incorporate a K66 profile cushion, which was my point.

GC4 and newer only need the Artemis and rail extensions.
GCIII and newer do not need the subrail bevel adjusted. Some early III's might, but most all do not.

You might be working on an early GCIII which technically has GCII rails, thus equipped with the slightly smaller K55, Monarch SuperSpeeds. Either that, or someone put something way different on there between the time it left the factory and you working on it. If you still have the old rubber, does it say "Brunswick Monarch SuperSpeed" on it? It should look like this.

Superspeeds are not a cushion profile, it is a brand of cushion and they are produced in the K55 dimensions. There are several manufacturers that offer K55 cushions. The only time Superspeed refers to a cushion profile is on the old Brunswick Superspeed Monarch cushions. I suppose you would say that Brunswick Superspeed is the name of the cushion and the profile is Monarch. Currently nobody makes "Monarch" dimensioned cushions.

Are those spacemen playing pool on the Monarchs?? I still have the Monarchs that came off ofv my table, I will have to take a look at them again sometime.

They do look like spacemen but I think they are supposed to represent pool players. Just don't call them astronauts. We have enough people claiming to be an "astronaut" recently. Maybe space cadet would be more appropriate.
