Opinions please: Looking at a Kaiser j/b - sneaky pete looking, phenolic tip and black ferrule.

Really just looking for an affordable break cue, and have been told that JJ has some well thought of models.

The Kaiser is on sale so I thought I would investigate it. It has a wood joint, is that alright or am I asking for trouble?

Break cues on the low end have a lot of fans, myself included. You'll get 10 different recommendations, and none are probably outright wrong.

No experience with the Kaiser, but my Players JB5 model has done everything I've ever needed at a great price. I bought a used J&J for a beater cue set and found it acceptable, but discernibly lower quality in the fit and finish.

best bang for the buck

I have been using a Kaiser jump break for about 5 years , best 65 dollars i have spent on pool , Kaiser is just a J&J with a bit more polish and shine , they are great Jump breaks , the best in their price range and just as good as many higher priced Jump breaks

No issues with the wood joint?

Thanks for the info.

Thanks Dallas.

I don't know about the jump cues from them, but I know that there were some Kaiser models that were very well rated. Their SW knockoff line was very popular. I always wanted to get one but then got a Ned Morris with the same pin and build style so never got around to it.

break cue

I have one that came with a case that I bought. I was very surprised - it performs great! It jumps as easy as any expensive jumper I have ever used. Go ahead.

I was real curious about the big wood joint too for longevity and strength. I've heard in certain circles best to use a wood to wood joint or a steel joint as opposed to an ivory, juma or other materials for breaking. I've not had an issue with mine, but I've seen the aftermath ( cracked joint collar especially ivory) and few of the other materials.

I stick with my stainless steel joint falcon though I have been juggling the idea of a cheaper production cue for breaking. I don't wanna mess up my joints on my custom cues....

no issues at all very solid jump break thr phenolic tip takes some geting used to but once your past that learning curve it breaks a ton

Ok, cool. Like I said, for now primarily a break cue.

On order, should get it early next week. I'll report back if anyone is curious.

I had one for while I'd compare it too. J&J as welll for the pricce u can't beat them hope u injoy it let us all know what u think

I bought a Kaiser B/J ( made by J&J). It worked well for about 2weeks then the phenolic tip developed some chips, some as big as an eighth of an inch. Sybert replaced the tip with one of theirs and no problems since. I like the wood joint, but it sticks out of my case by about an inch and a half. Overall I like it.

Ok, this has me worried. I was planning on carrying it in my case :(

Ok, I have the break cue. I broke seven or eight racks of eight ball with it just to get a feel for it.

The heavens didn't part and have all the balls run to a pocket. It must be defective.

Dumb question: Do you chalk a break cue with a phenolic tip?

Perhaps not a dumb question (though likely a dumb question also): If I ever wanted to put a different tip on the cue, does the ferulle have to be replaced at the same time?

Yes, chalk it! Even if the chalk doesn't stick, keep chalking it until it does.

You either can replace the ferrule or have the phenolic faced off and a new tip put on top of it.

If you carry it in your case I suggest you buy the joint protectors.

Definitely needed (and got) the joint protectors. Cue fits well in my JB Rugged, I was worried it wouldn't fit but there is plenty room.
