can anyone give me any type of information on Kaiser cues? I found a little, well just that they are made by J&J I think?

Havent read anything about playability, they are probably lower end as they are in the $100-$150 range...

anyways I am pretty new to pool equipment and learning...

This is the cue I have coming to me, if anyone can tell just by reading the specs what I should expect as far as hit and feel Id appreciate it....

The fiber ferrule I am most curious about, should I have that replaced with something better? Or let it be?

I realize Im going to get a "Try it and see how you like it." type of response, but Im hoping for something more pls.

Your probably not going to like this answer but youll basically have to try it. Sometimes people hit with a lower end cue and they feel that its the best hitting cue ever while others hate it. Personally, ive shot with a Kaiser for about 10 mins and i thought the hit was okay. More neutral for me i guess.

Also another thing to consider, if your new to the game then you wont really be able to tell the difference between feels of cues. Your just at a point where it wont make any difference.

Now if you start reading TOO MUCH into it then itll affect how YOU think about the cue. My advice is to not ask for the opinions on hit and feel and shoot with the cue. Im pretty sure you wont be disappointed.

I have one that I got off of eBay a few months ago. It was kind of lousy until I replaced the ferrules. The original ferrules were terrible. As I was cutting them off, I saw why, they were not glued/epoxied on very well at all. Maybe it was just the one I got, but don't be surprised if the hit is weak until you switch the ferrules. Now that I have some old Micarta ferrules that I installed on the cue, it hits great. Good luck with your new cue.

I have owned 2, they were freebies for league players. the first one was warped so he gave me a new one, that one developed a wobble too after a while. I called them "Monet" they look good from a distance...

Hey partner, the cue you purchased is a model K503 kaiser South West Knock off cue that is made with 2 shafts.

These cues are middle of the road for Asian import cues. Asian import cues are broken down as follows:

1. High Quality - Lucasi, Predator, Mezz and many others.

2. Medium Quality - Players, Action, Kaiser along with many others.

3. Low Quality - Mizerack - Minnesota Fats - along with cues sold at Kmart, Walmart, Sears and other stores that do not specialize in billiards equipment.

In all cases however, you get what you pay for, but the quality of what you purchased may be good you will not know for certain until you try it.

The fiber ferrule that you were concerned about, is a good thing not a bad thing. Most Asian import cues of low and even medium quality come with a Plastic ferrule which is much worst than fiber.

Fiber ferrules are durable and in most cases will not crack. They also provide a solid hit, and are used by many US. cue manufactures, such as Mcdermott and Heubler.

Last, since you are new to the whole cue purchase thing, let me make the following recommendation.

Do not purchase any other cues on line until you have researched what you are buying.

Go to a local store that specializes in billiard equipment and talk to the people about what they sell. Then try a number of different cues and find something in your price range that feels good to you.

If they will not let you chalk and test hit some balls with the cues they are selling go some where else.

Buy a cue is like anything else, you have to try it to be certain that you like the way it feels, because this will effect your play very much.

This may cost you a little money than buying a cue on line but you will get a cue more suited for you.

When your CUES comes if you do like the way it hits or feels have the tips changed or the weight changed. These cues come with a very hard tip, if you have it changed try a Le pro tip, they ARE a Medium tip and they are not expensive.

The weight can be changed by removing the cues bumper and unscrewing the weight bolt. The bumper on these cues are push in type, so you can leave the bolt out altogether or cut it down to make the cue lighter. Most cue seller also will have a additional bolts that will make the cue heavier.

I hope I have helped with your situation, if you have any more questions PM me.

P.S. The price you paid for cue is just a little over the cost, so I think you did ok, with all considered.

They're good beginner cues and decent quality considering the price. My first cue was a Kaiser, gotten with the help of a friend who is a friend to the J&J company; and yes J&J makes the cues. They're made in China or Taiwan.

Currently I play with a custom Espiritu, with a custom Huebler as back up (and about a half dozen other cues that haven't been used in more than a year). However, I'm still impressed at the quality of the performance of the Kaiser given the money. I'd put them at the same level as the entry-level Vikings, McDermotts, etc.

They play well enough, but the ferrule on the Kaisers tend to hold chalk. It's not problematic, it just means you have to pay more attention to keeping it clean if you care about the appearance of the ferrule.

Standard I believe they come with (came?) Le Pro tips. They tend to mushroom at first but afterwards they play fine. If anything, you may want to change the tip to suit your game. However if you're a beginner you might not know what tip(s) you like yet.

If you're new to the game and want to buy a decent cue without investing a lot of money, I'd reccommend Kaiser for a starter. If you stick with the game it's more than enough to get your game off the ground before your eyes start to widen with the possibility of some of the higher-end production and custom cues.

Thanks all, I think I have all of the information I need, Im not new to the game, Im just new-ish to the equipment, as I havent tried different weights, or other components to a cue.

The thing that drew me to this cue was the customer service from the seller, the cue is coming at 19.5oz which is what I want to try, and they were supposed to change the shaft diameter to 12.75mm, which aparently they didint due to confusion?

Anyways they did change the tips to layered tips, I suppose I should ask what kind, I know I like Sniper, and also liked Hercules...

my budget was $150 so I didnt have many options(That I knew of) to try different weights and shaft diameters, seems that most cues come standered at 19oz with 13mm shaft.

I was wanting a conversion cue or plain jane for around that price but I thought that might be a stretch...

I can return the cue only if unchalked, so I dont really get to test it for feel or hit without committing to it.

Right now I am shooting with a cue that I also got online that is supposed to be from the same makers of Palmer cues?

Its a rosewood, 19oz 13mm shaft, at the time I didnt know what a ferrule was so I dont know whats on it, but its wood to wood radial pin, and I had a Sniper tip installed on it that I like alot....

I like the cue and all but I was hoping to make a step up from that, but it doesnt sound like I did lol
