Kamui Clear Install

Hey all, Kamui recommends using Loctite 401 for installation of Kamui Clear tips. What's everyone using that works best. I did try a Loctite gel, and it did not hold at all. Kamui does not recommend using a gel, and now I see why. (http://forums.azbilliards.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

401 or prefessional are the two glues I recomend. I use that for all tip jobs and both glues works great, I think I had one tip fall of this year, I think I have done about 300 tips this year...

Loctite Gel

I must be living right!!! 30 plus Kamui Clear applications with Loctite Super Glue
Gel Control this year without a failure. Can't say that I do anything differently with the Clears than what I do with most any other tips. Rough sand - clean with denatured alcohol - glue - spread - set.

Kamui's statement that you don't have to sand the clears is Bogus, IMO, if you don't sand them flat, no matter what glue is used, it can/will fail. I always sand every tip on a flat plate, before and after priming them, and those clears ALWAYS have uneven surfaces right from the start....and if you don't sand them flat, and have a flat faced ferrule, you will have a failure at some point.

I have sanded and not sanded on others but i still feel.it needs some scuffing

Yeah, always sand those clear tips. I have a slab of granite I sand tips on, Having perfectly flat surfaces is key!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I always sand the glue surface on all of my installs but did not on the Kamui Clear because of the Kamui instructions. Of course it failed. Since I had to sand it to get it flush, I didn't have any problems with Loctite Pro afterwards.

Great to hear.

I'd like to add that it doesn't take much to prep tips right. This includes the clear pads.

It only takes me 2-3 seconds on my lapping plate covered in 220 to accomplish the task.

All that really matters is leaving a matte surface.

On clear pads,I wipe the surface clean with a paper towel and denatured alcohol to remove the dust. Tommy D.
