Kamui Gator Grip Tip Tool

Think I am going to order one of theses to tryout. It gets good reviews. Any input out there???

I like mine because it does a very good "scuffing" job without wearing down the tip. It might take 20-30 seconds longer to use than other scuffers, but it's worth it.

It won't shape. It's much too gentle for that.

I use mine a lot. Probably my most used pool related tool.
Just press it against the tip to scuff it when it needs it.
I also like using it to get a nice flat spot on the top of the tip.
I like an in-between dime and a nickel shaped tip with a flat spot on the top.
The Gator does the flat spot.

I use the packs of microfiber papers that some use to smooth their shafts. I don't use them on my shafts but they work the same as the gator grip tool for my tips.

This topic was just discussed, there is a a few options and one of them is a fraction of the price but is basically the same thing. I believe ebay was the source.

Best of luck.

Gator Grip in general works great, Kamui is over prced. Try ebay just search gator grip tip tool or Morakami Gator grip, it's identical for cheaper... But yes, best tip tool experience I've had, well worth it.

I may be completely wrong but judging by this picture they're not identical.
The Gator has what almost feels like small razor blades sticking out in an even pattern all the way the surface.
This doesn't look like that, but then...I haven't tried or even seen this in person.

That's a closeup of a Kamui Gator Grip

I prefer using a Tiger Le Manifik Tool. It comes with radius gauges, two shapers, and two different grit flat scuffers,

Yeah, it's hard to tell from the photo. The ebay version looks like it's just dimples embossed in the metal. In the Gator Grip the metal is actually punctured so you've got thousands of micro-sharp little knives that you're rolling the tip across. I can't imagine how the dimples of the ebay version would do anything useful (maybe it's punctured too, but the photo just doesn't show it).

I like the gator grip a lot and its the only thing I use to scuff my tip. tip picks actually make little holes in the tip that fill with chalk and mess with the tip hardness and hit. alittle pricy but worth it to me.

Kamui

I think all of Kamui's products in general are way overpriced , That being said I did finally break down and buy a Gator grip , 35 bucks , I will admit its the best scuffer I have ever used hands down

I still wont pay 30 bucks for Kamui chalk but the Gator Grip is a great tool

Way I see it, even though the Kamui Gator is a little pricy I don't care as this thing is going to last for years and years.
So it's all relative.
The difference is 20 bucks. Divided over 10 years, just throwing out a number, who cares? It's not even 1/2 a tank of gas.

I have the kamui gator and it is awesome. Well worth the price i paid. Get the real one if you can.

Get the ebony one for $45, it works even better because it is more expensive. Isn't that how Kamui products work?

Hehe, honestly it is a great tool, but overpriced like most things Kamui.

Kamui Gator Grip

At 60 years old I have seen them all and the Kamui Gator Grip is the best on the market hands down. I bought mine several years ago and it works just as good as the day I bought it. It is expensive but you get what you pay for. This tip tool will last for a very long time.

These are the best tools period for creating a rough tip. I wouldn't call it a scuffer as I don't use any sort of scuffing motion while using it. I have on the very rare occasion used it to sort of scuff errant fibers of leather sticking off of a tip but that is the only time I will ever use a scuffing type motion with it. You roll the tip along the surface and adjust the angle to follow the contour of the tip. It takes ten seconds to cover the whole tip. It seems to pull apart the leather as opposed to abrading and scuffing the tip. My tips are lasting twice as long at least now that I don't use a scuffer, and I use a gator grip every three or four racks. It also does not seem to remove much material at all, my last Kamui lasted 13 months of steady play without losing so much as a layer of tip. It's not an all in one tool. You will need a shaper/trimmer/burnisher, but once you have a good shape to the tip this is all you need to keep a perfect playing rough tip. The morakami tool looks similar but I have not seen it in person. I know the kamui price sucks, but in hindsight I would buy it again. This is the only tip tool I have ever recommended to any other player, and I have owned a lot of tip tools over the years. Hope that helps.

I love my Kamui tip tool. Gives the tip the right roughness without wearing it out as fast as other tip tools.
