Kamui vs Kamui Black

A different black tip now...

Kamui black SS was my favorite, but I believe the Tiger Onyx to be a far superior tip now.

I have the Kamui Brown Medium on my Blackcreek and love it. I just recently put a Kamui Black Super Soft on one of my shafts and it definitely has a softer feel to it, but I got used to it in no time. I think both play great, but I do like the slightly harder hit of my Brown Medium, so I think I'm going to try a Black Soft next. $20 doesn't seem so bad. It's pretty much a once time deal, at least for many years before you'd ever need a replacement.

what I find very strange is, that all of you guys over there tend to believe that the black is softer than the brown...

all of my club mates that have tried a black as comparison, rather say (which is also my feeling) that it is rather the opposite (or maybe production has changed in the last year?)

my wife plays the super soft (as a German I cannot use the acronym) on her 314^2 and it feels like a common soft brown Kamui which she had before...

I play a medium black on my cue and it is VERY hard... I both played a black med and hard on my 314^2 when I still had it and the hard was like the BK2 tip, the med like a moori hard that I had once...

But as I said, maybe we had some made differently at the beginning... it is already more than 1 year since I played another tip (without doing much more than very slight roughing up using the willard from time to time and to keep dime shape...)

I'm playing with a brown medium Kamui now, but I'll go ahead and ask ... which one is going to mushroom less? I hate looking down my shaft (hah!) and seeing the sides of my tip mushrooming out (hah again!).

All joking aside, that was a serious question. I guess I could go to a hard tip if it would hold its shape better, but I do like the way the medium plays. Anything harder might be a little too hard.

I assume by this that everyone feels that the Kamui Black is best. I asked the difference between Black and Brown, and even Kamuitips says that the Black is like a "performance" tire and the Brown is like a "cheap" tire according to the quoted post above.

Thanks for the help. I'll go with the Black.

Mike,
I have the Tan Medium on an OB2 shaft and it plays just fine. ( I haven't tried the Kamui Black yet)

A tool that I have come to like a lot is the Gator Grip tip conditioner by Kamui. It's a little expensive (about $30) and I bought it on AZB's Marketplace but the tool removes VERY little leather from the tip when you roll the tip across it. The mesh is so fine that it textures the tip without removing a lot of leather and indications are so far, that the tool may actually save me money because I don't grind the tip down as fast as I used to.

Hi there,
don't be affraid to try the Kamui Black soft or the Kamui Black Super Soft... They do not have mushroom problems and they are a lot softer than the black medium. Give the soft a try... you might like it a lot better.

actually I love my cue with the black medium tip.. the sound of the ivory joint and ferrule combined with the pretty hard tip gives a feel and sound that is just perfect!
on the 314^2 I even prefered the black hard, however on the solid wood one I enjoy the med one as it is... maybe I'll try the hard one if I ever need to change the med one
