Something unrelated to the question, but rather about the review. In the third video down, the guy stokes through the cue-ball and, at least to me, clearly hits the one ball with the stick. Yet the caption is: "Although Gilbert’s intention was for the cue ball to go completely around the four-ball, there’s still no denying that this shot is a legal shot and would totally have your opponent contorting in fear if you whipped it out during a match."

I don't see this this shot as "a legal shot" as OMGWTF states. The cue stick hit the one during the stroke, that is a foul.

I actually just purchased one of these shafts about two weeks ago. I have been playing with a 314 for about four years and found them to be fairly comparable. Overall I really like the hit and feel of the taper. It does feel like it has a little more deflection than the Predator for more extreme english shots. You have to adjust the shot a little more, but it only took me an hour or so to feel that I had dialed in those shots.

I've owned 2 of them, one for a steel joint and one for a 3/8x10 I think... I wasn't a big fan of the Katana shafts, they felt very whippy to me and lacked a crisp hit. I put a large assortment of tips on them and just couldn't get used to them.
<<<predator shaft user for over 10 years.

Katana

i have been playing with this shaft for almost a year now and i love it. i did not like the tip that came on it, it was a tiger everest medium. i switched it out to a kamui supersoft, much better. but ive played with predator z2's and 314's n find this shafts plays more like the z2 than the 314. i have let people use my cue(mcdermott) with the katana shaft n they too agree it plays very well and similar to the predator z2. honestly both shafts i found work well its just predator has a bigger following with a longer history. it is a cheaper alternative to more expensive ld shafts.

as for it being whippy, i dont really see that, maybe a softer feeling hit but then again i'm a soft hitter that likes using alot of english n this shaft performs to what i'm looking for.

Katana

I've owned a couple of Katanas, and sold many. I call them a "predator-lite" because they are in between a predator and a standard shaft as to deflection. Not that hard to get used to from either of those, they have long taper which many guys like. The hit is more solid than a predator, IMO, because they are not hollow at the tip end. If you use a predator you'll probably think the katana is not as stiff, where as if you use a standard shaft you'll think it's more stiff. They're worth a try if you're looking for a stiff, lower deflection laminated shaft, but don't what to go through the adjustment period of switching to a predator.

I doubt it hit the one. Its pretty much impossible to hit the one as the cue deflects to the side while the one goes straight. I know a guy who can hit this shot and make the cue ball follow without fouling (of course the cue ball goes way off to the side before going forward).

I purchased a new cue and due to the pin size my predator shaft from my previous cues would not fit. So I purchased a Katana , at over 100.00 savings compared to the 314 I though it was worth a try. I'd agree with most of the previous posts, it is comparable to the 314 as far as performance but has the feel of a Z due to it's taper. I have no problem with the tip that came on it , it's very responsive. I'm extremely happy with it, I do not forsee myself ever going back to a predator , this shaft performs just as well IMO and it's nice having the extra 100 in my pocket :)
