A week or two ago, I happened along an Accu-Stats stream and stuck around to watch for a bit. While there, I won my choice of a video. I looked around, found what I wanted and sent in my request. 2009 Derby City One Pocket - Shannon Daulton and Scott Frost, with Billy Incardona and Danny DiLiberto as commentators. I figured I could learn a lot about this game from this one video, alone.
A few days ago, we finally got to the post office to pick it up, but the video sat on the pool table for another couple of days, while I found time to watch. We had the grandkids and I really wanted to wait until they were gone, so I could relax and enjoy the video.
We sent the little one home and kept the 5 year old granddaughter an extra day. I decided I'd like to teach her a little about the game, as I learned. We could watch and listen and discuss it, together. But, I got sidetracked by some things I had to get done. I forgot I had started the video and left it running.
Gene got home from work and spent some time with the granddaughter before we took her home.
After we got back home, Gene asked me how much time I spent with her, watching the video. We usually sit down and discuss different sports and other things, as they happen, so she will understand the games better. She started playing pool with her own pool cue at 6 months old, so she has a natural interest in the games (and plans to grow up to be a cuemaker).
I told Gene that I had become sidetracked and didn't get to watch any of the video and didn't even remember turning it on... why?
His response totally shocked me. I guess he came in and sat down with her. She informed him the guys were playing one pocket and started telling him who they were. I hadn't had a chance to tell her a thing about the video, so she sat down and listened and learned it on her own. This is a FIVE YEAR OLD!!!
For anyone who says pool on tv is boring, there is your proof that it is not. Keeping the attention of a 5 year od is a VERY tough thing to do!
Well, after that news, I stayed up into the night, watching some of the video, myself. I certainly can't have her coming back over here and knowing more about the strategy of that game than I do!!

I'm really glad our granddaughter is so interested in the games and the cuemaking. I am sure she will be really hard to beat, when she gets a little older!
