Keith Josey Cue Review

I've always heard how great Josey cues hit and how stiff they hit. So I placed an order to get one of his 'sneaky pete' cues to try out. I received the cue about 2 weeks ago and have more than a few hrs of play w/ it. IMO, this is the most solid cue I've ever hit w/. It does play very stiff (which I prefer) but is just unbelievably solid. My previous preferred playing cue was a Joe Ezell, followed closely by a Bob Frey, and then my Schon (and yes, my Schon plays great just like every other Schon I've ever shot w/). But w/o a doubt, the Josey is now my primary playing cue. After hitting some balls w/ it, I'm even more happy w/ my decision to get a 2nd shaft made for this one. I have a LePro tip on one shaft (this is what I've always played w/) and a Talisman on the 2nd shaft (wanted to a try another layered tip). With the exception of the tips, both shafts play identical.

Overall, without a doubt, this is the best hitting cue I've ever owned and this is the only cue I have that I'd refuse to trade/sell based purely on how good it plays. I payed $320 for the cue plus another $160 for the 2nd shaft. I can't possibly imagine that another cue of equal quality can be found for this price. I highly recommend his cues to anybody that wants a super solid, stiff hit at a great price!

Oh yeah, Keith and his wife are absolutely excellent to work with. They provided great communication every step of the way and responded to any emails very fast.

Very satisfied customer,

Anyone ever try one of his jump cues? I've considered ordering one with the cocobolo handle. He reports he uses a leather tip vs a phenolic one.

I'm glad You are happy I placed my order 2 weeks ago and the wait time was 3 months! I'm itchin to get this thing in my hands. I hope I'm as happy with mine as you are with yours. Did they e-mail you pics along the way or did you just wait till they called and said they were shipping it? Man I am so figgin excited now!

I first inquired about a cue on a Saturday and Sherri called me on Monday morning. I told her what I wanted and she estimated about 3 1/2 months (mid-Dec). Sometime in Nov I emailed them to ask if it was too late to get a 2nd shaft for the cue. Within hrs I got a response that it was no problem but would obviously push the date back a bit, as I expected it would. I called Sherri around the beginning of Dec to ask how the cue was coming along and she said that work had come to a halt for a while due to a death in the family (I first heard about it right here on AZ). I told her to take all the time they needed and to just let me know. I ended up getting the cue about 2 weeks ago and I've never been happier w/ a cue.

Also, another big selling point for me was that they'll take orders w/ 50% up front and then the balance is to be paid (plus shipping) right before they send it out. This may be common but I know that I paid 100% upfront for my Bob Frey (which was more than worth the price also!). While I only had a sneaky being made, making the purchase in 2 installments lessened the blow to my bank account epsecially seeing how I had NO reason to get another cue, lol. But I sure am glad I did.

And for the one requesting pics...I don't have a digital camera but it is the exact cocabola (sp?) sneaky pete that is on his website. I'm not in to all the fancy inlays and stuff but I do like trying out cues from different cuemakers.

I bought a Josey cue back in 2000 and fell in love with it. It has a great stiff hit. A few years ago I had a chance to pick up another one (one of his Sneaky Petes) and have used it for a break cue. Some people say it is overkill for a break, but you can't beat the Josey cue for any purpose. I don't hit the balls hard on the break (BigDoc says I hit like an "Alice"), but balls still fall almost every break. I never got that type of action on the break from my McDermott or Schon.

I've been trying to get another Josey for a while and should have picked up the Josey J/B that Captain K. had for sale, but I missed out. So to complete my Josey cues I ordered a J/B today for my birthday. I know it will be 3-4 months, but trust me when I say it is totally worth the wait!
