Does anyone have any information on Kelly Cues? This cue is marked "Kelly Cues '91" on the butt. It looks and plays great. Any notions as to its history or value would be appreciated.

By the way, this is my first effort at posting a pic. It may be a bust.

> I used to see a LOT of these cues around Jonesboro,Ark,Missouri and Mississippi. They hit very similar to older Schon's,and had a very distinctive steel-jointed "ping",partially due to their preference for the old yellow Micarta ferrules. The one you show here would be close to the top of the food chain, most of the ones I saw back in 1993-5 were plain or simple 4 pointers, maybe 2 veneers. Nice cue,Tommy D.

Can you post a picture of the butt with the logo showing? A guy named Mike Derouen from Louisiana makes Kelly Cues, but from what I understand there was someone else somewhere who also makes them under that name. I would be able to tell the difference. If it is one of Mike's cues, with no inlays in the butt, it would probably run you about $400 new. He has been making cues for about 25 years and does really nice work, and is probably one of the cheapest custom cuemakers I know of for true quality vs. price. I recently saw one of his box inlay cues with veneers, and the mitered veneers were cut so precisely that you couldn't see the miter line, and that was for every corner, 2 veneers, and a total of 8 boxes! He probably didn't charge more than about 800 for the cue.

Here you go. Thanks to both of you for the info.

Yes thats definately one of Mike Derouen's cues he is from New Iberia, Louisiana and just might be the best cue maker for the money out there he is a perfectionist. The only reason his name isn't out there much is because he doesn't make many cues even though he's been doing it since 1983. He definately does as good or better work then most of the top cue makers. Check out this other cue he just made. http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=96916&highlight=derouen

This is my new (got it last week) Kelly Cue Titlist conversion by Mike Derouen.

Sneakypete above knows Mike like I do. Very meticulous. He ordered veneers that match the original ones in the Titlist cues, and also used some of the original cue wood to make the points on my Joint protectors. He has finally decided to delve into the higher end stuff, but most of the cues he has made in the past are nice non-veneered conversions with wraps and nice joints/butt caps, or plain sneakies.

Really a regionally known cuemaker, but is very good. I liken the quality of his cues to be near Mike Bender, and for me that is saying alot! All ringwork lines up, points even, recuts, etc.
