I think most people would have picked Jeff. I think they thought they had the nuts since they offered to raise the bet to 2 dimes before the match started. I had half the action and I knew that Jeff was going to have to play nearly perfect to beat her.

They didn't want a second set.

Jeff is a pretty good player but neither he nor Kelly really got the breaks going so no one strung racks.

Against someone like Watson Kelly would need to have the break working so she could put multiple racks together. 4 packs and more are commonplace among the top-notchers.

I just wanted to see the board's line and brag about Kelly a little bit. Anyone want to bet she is in the top three by the end of the year (provided that there are enough points available for her to get there)?

John

John,

I have not seen Kelly play, but I know Jeff's game pretty well. She must be playing great to beat Jeff. He is a solid player and usually a really good gambler.

Are you aware of who was staking Jeff's side of this? Where did the match take place? I'm just curious who is traveling with Jeff and where they are now.

I wasn't trying to hijack your thread. I just thought Karen and Watson would add a little spice to the formula. Kelly does play great...I saw her play in the Florida event two years ago, has a smooth stroke. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure to watch Tony Watson play, He is known to play very badly at times and keep raising the bet. If he doesn't run out of time, like a ten ahead set, He usually hits stroke and can very reasonably run the whole set out on you. Karen can come with shots and play all the time because she used to playing sets to NINE for the cash in tournament play....Can't play another set in tournament play...You just move over to the loser's side.

I know who was with Jeff but I don't feel comfortable revealing it. I heard they lost another $500 or so on the side betting against Kelly.

I only mentioned the match because Jeff and Kelly are reasonably well known.

Kelly has only been playing nine ball since March of 2004. She is the most natural player I have seen in a long time. Never struggles, almost always in line with nearly perfect speed.

I think it is ludicrous that the WPBA won't allow their players to play in events that they have nothing to do with. Jeanette did great at the DCC in 2004 and she wasn't allowed to play in 2005 because of the WPBA.

Kelly wants to mix it up and compete with the guys.

I understand. I'll be talking with him next week anyway. I'll find out the details then.
