Does anyone have expirence with Kent Davis cues and how they play? I am looking for a radial laminated cue that is thinner than the average cue. Let me know any of your thoughts about Kent Davis cues, and possible contract information to get a hold of him.

i like the idea if the raidal laminated forearm and i really like the Ipe wood that he cores them with, but i really don't have any experience with them.

contact Martin "jazznpool" I played with his cue at VF play solid and builted on solid foundation, Kent is a great guy to deal with.

I don't think I've ever seen a used one for sale. Usually that is good but I have no personal experiance with the cues. I might try one if I could pick one up used.

call J and J,if you have an account with them his cues were being wholesaled there pretty reasonable.

There are quite a few posters here that have one or more of my cues. You can run a search of some of their responses. I will have a demo cue which will be available soon (hopefully within one month). Martin (jazznpool) has probably the largest domestic inventory of completed KD cues I know about, including one thin butt (1.240 in.) highly figured birseye maple forearm w/snakewood and ebony points in stock. The cue is not on his website presently because he is having a leather wrap put on. I believe the forearm is in the photo below. I hope this will help you, Kent

Okay my time to chime in.

I own a Kent Davis cue. Here is a link to it.

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=91473

Now this is the only KD cue I own, but I have hit with many. The core in my radial laminated forearm is Ipe. I wanted this core because Kent had made a cue for a friend of mine with this core and I liked how it played.
As for how thin the handle is I requested mine to be a bit thinner. Kent made it perfect.
Now for playability. I went with Kent to the poolhall when the cue was built, it was still incomplete for it had no finish. I broke and ran my fourth try. After that I was running balls very consistently. So I was quickly used to the cue.
After my cue was finished I was in action a lot. I think the first two weeks I had the cue I won a little over $400. As for the hit. I chose the Ipe core because I felt that this core moved the ball around with a little less effort than the other cores. The hit is firm but I still get good feedback, unlike on some other cues that hit firm, this thing did not feel like a rock when I felt the vibration. So the feedback is quite good and had a nice firm hit. The balance point is forward balanced. The actual balance point is right where the inlay is on the long points.
As for cosmetics. The veneer work is really good. I can barely see a seem line, and the veneers a really consistent as the colors are not fading on either side of the point. The finish is superb. When I went to get my cue it looked completed, but Kent told me he didnt even polish the cue yet. I was surprised because it looked done, it was just that his gun sprays so clean it comes out really clear.
Other than that, that is all I can think of right now. If there are any other types of questions I can answer them as well.

Oh one more thing. Not that I should have to say this, but others don't know him. He is a great guy as well, takes his work very seriously and also is concerned that his customer is happy as well. I would never hesitate to recommend him for anything.

I appriciate all the feedback, one more question is weight. My dream cue specs. standard length, 1.0 inch at top of grip and 1.2 at bottom Plain Jane Laminated highly figured maple for the butt, black stacked leather wrap. the one last things is the weight at 17.5 oz or +/- .2oz I like a light playing cue. Kent is this possible to make this?

Ipe is the nuts, extremely strong and stable with great tone.

17.5 oz.

I will have to use a different core, but I can get the cue to weight. I have had much success with Garapa, as it is lighter than ipe or purple heart. As a last resort I can core the back end a bit, but I like the cue to have a balance point of about 19 in. from the butt. Let me know if I can help you further, Kent

Yea I was gonna mention that you used a lighter one as well, I just forgot the name of it.

Another endorsement here for Kent and his cues. I have one, and play regularly with two others that belong to friends.

I recently lent my sneaky to an A player friend who didn't have his cues with him (he plays with a high end scruggs and a capone)

He said it was one of his favorite cues and to let him know if I was selling it. (Which I never will)

I have ~5 cues now, of which my Kent sneaky is by far the simplest, yet I keep coming back to it.

His laminated cues play even better.

As a person, Kent is A+. I've thoroughly enjoyed every conversation we've ever had together. I've made multiple trips to his shop just to say hello.

I would highly recommend Kent and his cues to anyone.
