Kersenbrock questions

Guys -

I do have some questions.

I bought this Omega/dpk cue a few years ago.

It looked awesome, I really liked everything on it, but the shafts were really strange. I couldn't make a ball with it. I really expected the taper to be like a "Southwest" taper, as Southwest was really derived from Kersenbrock. The Omega/dpk that I had played NOTHING like a Southwest cue. I traded the cue fairly quickly.

So here are the questions.

1.) Are Omega/dpk shaft taper the same as Kersenbrock taper?
2.) Is Southwest taper the same as either Omega/dpk or Kersenbrock taper?
3.) Do older Kersenbrock and newer Kersenbrocks have the same taper? ie Has David changed his taper (standard)?

I have an old Southwest cue, and have had many others. To me, the older ones seem to play better, but maybe it is just older shafts.

The best playing Southwest I ever had was Jason Miller's Southwest that I traded (+ cash) Ken Kerner for a Szamboti. It wasn't the best looking ever, it was very pretty however. I really don't remember how I got it, and I think I asked Ken about a couple years ago and he said it was long gone...(another regret that I let that one get away..).

1.) Are Omega/dpk shaft taper the same as Kersenbrock taper?

There is really no reason to believe they would be. Kersenbrock had nearly nothing to do with the development of Omega/dpk. The dpk was a marketing homage to David and nothing else.

2.) Is Southwest taper the same as either Omega/dpk or Kersenbrock taper?

There is almost no connection between Southwest shaft and Omega/dpk shaft tapers. The only connection is that David Kersenbrock showed Mike Bender how to build (and helped to build) the same style of shaft cutting table saw that he (David) and Jerry Franklin built together years before. The cutting method therefore was the same, but the taper was Mike Bender's before Kersenbrock stepped foot into the shop.

There is also no reason to think that Kersenbrock and South West cues should (or must) have the same taper. The two (Jerry and David) had different feel and tastes just like any two people would.
