I won't be able to sleep tonight and I am just a spectator. I don't know how the IPT stars will be able to handle this.

And yesterday I was looking at the DCC and seeing 470 players in bank pool and wondering if that was normal or exceptional. I don't even know anyone who plays bank pool.

But could the great attendance at the DCC by both fans and players be because of KT and the IPT? I don't think he hurt it any.

I've been told that some of the best bank players hail from the State of Kentucky. :p

One of the features about the DCC which separates it from the rest is that players of all caliber can compete at a very affordable price. It's a week-long celebration of pool in all of its glory: topnotch competition, action, pool vendors, seeing old friends and making new ones.

I think the buzz of the IPT has opened up the eyes of quite a few pool folk from around the world. The DCC has had a long tradition of being a kind of pool mecca where folks gather from far and near under one roof. Whether you're a pro, a road player, an amateur, a ball-banger, a social shooter, a railbird, a fan, or a pool enthusiast, DCC offers a little something for everyone.

The change agent for pool in the '80s, according to some pool pollsters, was the movie "The Color of Money." In the '70s, I'd have to say Minnesota Fats and Steve Mitzerak helped pool quite a bit from their television appearances, always spiced up with comedy and humor.

In the '90s, pool didn't enjoy much notoriety. It is a slap in the face to pool as a sport that ESPN doesn't even provide a category for it, other than "miscellaneous." Hot dog-eating contests, overweight firemen sliding up and down greased-up telephone poles, and high-powered lawn mower races, though, aired on prime time. I think for the '90s, I'd have to say the WPBA was the BEST thing to happen to pool with their numerous broadcasts of various tour events. IMHO, though, because of a variety of reasons, MANY talented players did go on the road to make a living because, quite frankly, the tournament trail expense was ridiculously high, not to mention the implosion of the politically run organizations, keeping pool stuck in the mud.

Will the IPT be the change agent at the beginning of the 21st century? I believe it's in the front running at this juncture. If pool gains in popularity because of it, we all benefit, the players, the fans, the pool industry members, and the like. JMHO, FWIW!
