another great video dr dave
one more reason you would kick my butt if we ever played!!!!!!!!!
one comment
your example of the 3 rail kicks
in my experience its unusual to aim at 3 to go 3 rails to the corner on a pool table (not true for a billiard table where 3 is the common aim point)
except on new cloth with alot of slide
on most of the tables i play on you have to aim between 1 and 2 (gold crown and diamonds with broken in cloth)

I've never seen a Gold Crown play that short, but it doesn't surprise me for a Diamond (see why Diamond tables bank short). I know some people say the Blue Labels play normal, but the Blue Labels I've played on in New Orleans (where humidity also plays an effect) bank ridiculously short. For every other brand of table I play on in my area (Gold Crown, Valley, Olhausen, etc.), the 3-rail corner-to-corner shot is aimed between 2 and 3.

I made a big error with the ball selection and explanation on one of the shots of the video. Did anybody spot it yet?

Good stuff, DrDave. Sunday was kicking practice at my house. Saw your vid after I was done.

My Olhausen table requires a hit on the second diamond on a three-rail kick to the opposite corner.

At my main pool hall, one GC4 table requires a second-diamond hit and another required a first-diamond hit.

I retested the one that required a first-diamond hit recently, and this time I just had to go to the second diamond. New cloth? Old cloth? Got to be one of them. The cloth gets switched every year. Simonis 760 I think.

Not sure I have played on a table that got to the opposite corner by hitting the third diamond ...

Kicks and banks generally go longer with new/clean/polished balls on new/slick/clean cloth in a dry/warm environment (see cloth effects, ball condition effects, and humidity and temperature effects). Cushion nose height (which can vary from table to table and even from rail to rail on a given table) also has an effect.

What is weird is that all the tables I have played on the past year or two, you are still hitting one diamond or another. No table seems to be off by just a half diamond. It always seems to be a full diamond.

Most of the places I play it’s at one and a half
So go figure
🤔

The playing safe on the 8 in eight ball with your opponent's one ball between them?

Bingo. Good job.

Yep, the 1-ball was supposed to be the 9-ball. I don't know how I missed that during filming AND editing, but I did. Sometimes I am so focused on the shooting and video production, I forget to check the important "pool stuff."
