Hey guys, I'm making a cue for a 9 yr old. I cut the butt down to 23" and I don't know whether to cut the shaft down too, or keep it standard.. or does it matter..... I need some opinions please......

The kid is your average 9 year old sized kid......

Hi,
I teach kids, my grandkids and it's important to me. I also teach adults one pocket mostly. I wouldn't get too small of a cue if I were you. I'd prefer they only have to make minor adjustments as they were growing into playing. The main thing I"d do is make sure they aren't stroking SIDEARM, give them something to stand on so they aren't forced to shoot ala Mcreedy or whoever. Willie Mosconi and Steve Mizerak both played on boxes when they were kids. Steve's dad had a pool room I"m not sure about Willie.
They'll have a better chance of being good when they are older. The balance should be good if , you go a little smaller, don't just cut something down. Make sure the feel will be similar to an adult cue. Teach them the bridge while they are young. They may grow up to be not tall people??
It's a good time to teach them that now. If they grow tall, then they are ahead of the game.

That's my opinion, I"m sticking to it.....

Talk to Brent aka BHQ...he has done a few of these. If memory serves, my stepdaughter's cue is 52" in length, 26" and 26" respectively. She was 10 when she received it...still uses it, but she is a little on the shorter side, stature-wise.

Here is one I built last year.This one is 50" long weighs 14 oz. and has a
12.25 mm shaft. It was built for Taylor, who is 3.

Thats what I was thinking Dave.
The 3 year old would probably prefer a Gummy Bear wrap.
But, very nice cue just the same, damn, I'd be happy with it and I'm 52.
