I was asked at league if I could build a cue for one of our league members child as she has taken an interest in play pool. My question is what is the best way to figure out how long the cue shuld be? I have my idea but want a second or thrid opinion. Child is ten and just over 4 feet tall.

i have one about done i was going to list on here soon, birdseye handle and redwood burl forearm, cue will be 50-52 inches long depending on what someone wants and diameter of the shaft will be 13.4 as kids need a bigger sweet spot.

my 5yr old and 6yr old each have one at 35inches and love it. works very well for them.

i figure it should be 10-11 inches for each ft a kid is tall just a guess tho, each kid will probably need something diffrent.

BHQ built one for my step-daughter for her 10th birthday, and hers is 52" in length...was just about perfect, and left a little bit of growing room to boot.

I would build the cue so that when the bumper sits on the floor the top of the ferrule is even with the bottom of the child's nose. For most adults of average height their cue comes up to their chin or lower lip. By taking it to the bottom of the child's nose it will allow them use it a little longer as they grow.

This is how I gage a cue for a person height, it should be no different for a child.

Take care

That's a very nice cue Lisa and I'll bet your step-daughter just loves it to death.
That Brent, he's a prince if a guy, ain't he?

Buy a house cue with a thin shaft if you can find one. Dufferin or Vally supreme. Cut a few inches off of the back and screw on a bumper. That should hold you for a while. No need to spend big bucks right now, even a used house cue will do if it is straight.

Thanks for the info.

Want to thank you all for your help. I have a piece of BEM and purpleheart that I will use to make this cue. My thought was to make it about 51" and supplying a 3"-4" extension that could be added to the bottom of the cue as she grows. Will post pictures once I get it together.
