I have a McDermott heartbreaker j/b and a jacoby jump cue. my question is they are both 3x8/10, can i use the jacoby shaft to break with without any worries? my worry is that the jacoby shaft wont handle breaking. what do you guys think?

I'm sure the shaft can handle breaking if that's your question. I would think you put a lot more strain on the shaft jumping than you would breaking with it.

thank you tony. its just one of those "what if" questions that i thought of while staring at my case earlier and really didnt think too hard about it just posted the question.

You shouldn't have any problems breaking with that shaft. If you do...let us know, it has a lifetime warranty on it. And as we always say here,

If you can't break with it, don't shoot with it. :)

Welcome to az...

nice I have one of you jacoby jump cues, but rarely use it as I play mainly one pocket or straight pool. I shoot with a Bob Frey cue now, but used to shoot with Jacoby i bought used... I took a couple year hiatus from pool, and the jacoby butt had warped on me(all fault of my own, I left the cue in storage in a place that was not ideal) but the shaft is straight as an arrow... so I started using it as a break cue.

Never thought about trying using the jump shaft as a break shaft... Ill start toting around with me again just to see how it does for 8 and 9 ball.

i had a players bump break for years. it was a beast.that shaft got very small under 12mm and i didnt have a problem. the reason a scrapped it is bc the pin broke one day when i was breaking with it. go figure

Jacoby shafts play real well, I bought 4 of them at this year's APA nationals for various cues. Great guys to deal with!

in my experience..the jumper shaft has a lot of deflection due to the brass ferrule so its difficult to hit the head ball square all the time on the break. It is a tremedous jumping shaft though and you may find you jump the cueball off the table often on very hard breaks.

you are correct on the deflection part but i havent had a problem with keeping the ball on the table. even without hitting the headball whole it still scatters them good. it could also be my stroke.

the main reason i started using it with my heartbreaker j/b is that i got really tired of getting hooked and taking the time to dig the jacoby jump cue out for one or two shots, so i figured why not just put the shaft on my j/b and then it'll always be handy and i can clean out some room in my case. jumps just as good on the j/b as it did with the jacoby handle but i do miss the finger groove a little on the closer jump shots.
