KO brothers tip review.

I put the medium KO brothers brand tip onto my cue today and went to go shoot a few games. This tip is a monster. The sound is awesome for a layered tip and the amount of English I could apply with it was great too. Plays well. I’ll write another review a couple months from now to speak on consistency. But so far so good. Plays better then any kamui, HOW or a ultra skin IMO.

who actually makes it? i just don't see ordering tips from halfway around the world. can't be that much different then what's already out there. curious, it plays better how? you haven't had it on a full day it doesn't sound like. i'm sure its a good tip but i doubt its any big leap ahead.

also i have read that many of these tips are just rebrands .... they are the same thing just rebranded
Most tips are made by a handful of shops. You tell them what you want and they make it. There a few solo outfits but not that many. I wouldn't be surprised if HOW is making these for the Bros. And someone else may make the HOW's. So, WHO makes Ko tips, HOW?? WHO knows. ;)

To my liking. That’s why I said IMO “in my opinion” people like their brands and I just so happen to like the way this tip felt today. So id say I like this rather then any of those other brands. It’s a good tip.

And actually I had a conversation with them, they have people source their leather and have started their own manufacturing company for these tips. So they make their own.

They have the leather sourced and also have their own manufacturer. They’ve been testing and trying to find what they like for awhile now. They want to create a lot of things under their name. They also have a their own manufacturing company for some cues. Mainly jump cues right now. But they’re currently working on more. Their good people if you ever get the chance to have a conversation with them. Very passionate about billiards. That’s why I was happy to support them and bought several tips from them. While testing the tips, I found I liked the way they felt and played. I wouldn’t say they’re for everyone either. Find what ever you like the best is what I tell most people who ask me what tip they should have me installed. That’s why so many people use so many different kinds of tips. For the most part I usually tell people about the cheaper tips more often then anything expensive. Kamikazi, ultra skins etc.. these KO tips are pricy, but they’re good tips and if you like supporting guys trying to build something of their own then they’re worth it.

That's cool. My point is it generally takes a few days if not longer to evaluate a new tip. There's not that much difference in the better brands. Tips are so subjective that telling others what you like really means nothing. I've tried a BUNCH and there is little to no difference,TO ME, in the $20+ tips and a $3 Ultraskin or a $10 Thoroughbred. I can get same amt. of spin with a .50 Triangle as i can a hi-dollar layered. I like layered because they tend to last longer and are consistent for life of tip. A lot of soft layereds harden up over time so i never use anything less than a medium.

Have you personally tried any of the tips/products that you keep dumping on?

Keith
where it makes sense, yes. but paying 30 dollars a cube of chalk or 25$ for a leather tip when paying so much just because is just bad business on the buyers side

Yes definitely understandable. I will be shooting with it for a couple months and getting a review of if I actually like it or not. I was just surprised with how it felt that first day. For what ever reason, the hit just felt better and sounded better then what I’m used to right out of the gate. I replaced a kamikazi medium(the ultra I think, which ever one is grayish brown) with the KO tip. I know there isn’t too many things that can change or become better with tips besides feel. Like I said, so far I really liked the feel of this tip, which is probably what made me comfortable and that’s what makes me put more English on etc… I can shoot good with any ole bar cue. But once I get my cue in my hand and the feeling is on point, I’ll shoot lights out. I enjoy the feel of a true medium tip on a wood to wood jointed cue. The feel is unmatched. There’s just something about how the hit resonates to the back hand.

Me and my buds call this 'new tip syndrome'. same as 'new cue syndrome'. the fascination wears off and its just another tip after a few days. glad you like it. BTW, tip offset is what generates more spin. I've tried probably 100 tips and none spin the ball more than the other enough to worry about. I can use a cheap LePro or Triangle and get just as much spin.

Gravey,
was there an update on the Ko tips?
Bit late, but being that they only this year became available for sale on US pool supply sites and not random dudes on Fb, I've been using the Soft for a few months now. When I switched to carbon I had a hard time finding a tip I liked. One point first, I certainly prefer softer tips. My fav tip before this was the Kamui Black SS, despite the need to deal with the mushrooming. I keep 2 shafts so I can always try new tips without commitment, and after a few hits with the Ko Soft, I switched to it as my main shaft. That said after a month or two I noticed it starting to fray a little on the bottom (near the glue point). Almost like it was delaminating, but not quite. Still played great. Didn't really have any major mushrooming issues though I have cleaned up the edges a bit once or twice since. Today when practicing I miscued and looked at my tip and the miscue had taken a small chunk out of it. That said, I liked the tip enough I'm going to try it one more time, just hoping the one I got was a bit of a lemon in the other areas.
