I'm kind of surprised not to see any news, let alone photos, here from the Los Angeles Cue Collectors Show. Did anybody here attend it?

Ed, as you kow, I did.
I believe Billiard and Digest was there.
A good number of Japanese and Taiwanese were there too I was told. Your friend Lucky was there.
Great show. Tad was honored by the cuemakers. Tad who has never belonged to an association or club of cuemakers was paid tribute to .
Ernie Gutierrez of Gina cue was there. His presence and his cues and a case lit up the room.
Jim Stadum of Samsara, Mcworter, Wayne, Black, Drexler, Chudy and Bill Stroud and Tad showcased their cues. Bill Schick could not make it due to illness in the family.
It was a great show for the cue enthusiasts and cue collectors.
A friend of mine grabbed an ebony forearmed Tad with snakewood inlays. Very rare piece for a Tad.
The day before the show, they took photos of cues for the next Blue Book. From the looks of it, the next BB is going to be a must have.
Bill Stroud who was behind this show and the one before is one fine gentleman. It appears this is going to be an annual event now.
I hope you make it next year here.

it was a show by invitation only, and not open to the public, i think(maybe i'm wrong). the non-cuemakers were high end collectors. stroud hosted one last year, which was a private function, at his home in ruidoso, new mexico,,,and it sounds like he will host one every year. he has been enthusiastic about both.

stroud does as much, if not more, as anyone to promote high end cue collecting and cue making as art. and he has the business savy to pull it off.

maybe someone should ask him to promote big tournaments(though i don't think he'd take up the gauntlet)

I'm not a cue collector but got to go as I was taking pictures for Paul Drexler's website. It was a very interesting experience for someone like myself who has never seen exotic high-end cues close up. The format meant that each cue maker was only displaying 12 cues (And some had less) so they only had their very fanciest work on display. I was really impressed by being able to see Jerry McWorter's cues up close, I love his organic curves and shapes.

They also had an interesting section where all the cuemakers were given a piece of a single board of exotic wood to build a cue from. (Sorry, I've forgotten what the wood was!)

Didn't you notice the purpleheart skull cue with the matching break/jump that had the ivor-x ferrule and Jack Justis case? Kerry Z saw it.

Hope someone got a picture of it. I'd like to see how it looks. The ER Cue must be a part of a collector's cue set. Who's the collector?

Of course I'd like to see the cues of the 8 other cuemakers as well.

Hey Ed, please post pics of that SKULL CUE in the Cue Gallery. Have any?

It would be nice to also have pics of the all the cues... similar to the thread re another expo... pls pls, someone must have taken pictures.;)

Hello,

Why didn't i read something about this show?
Is there like a site or magazine for cuecollectors??
It would be nice if someone could give me some more info about cuecollecting esspecially because i am from the Netherlands and i won't be finding much here!!

Thanks

Any more info on this? What is the criteria, how long do they have and will there be a Cue Exibition to display these cues?

Thanks,
Zim

Not sure about the conditions of the competition. The best person to ask would be Bill Stroud, he organized the show. As for the photos I took I'm putting together a proper page for them for Paul Drexler's site. In the meantime I have posted the pictures of the "Skull" cue that I believe was made by Edwin Reyes. I'm afraid the skull inset in the butt cap did not come out too well, but you get the idea.

This show was open to the public. (the one in Ruidoso NM) Pictures of this event were in Billiards Digest and Pool and Billiards Magazine.

I did. :)
I didn't see the shaft and the case though.
The skull inside the buttcap was a great touch.
People keep saying take a look the bottom of the cue.
Fine-looking one of a kind cue.

LA Collector's Cue Show site?

Does anyone know of a site where the pictures of all the cues are shown?;)

The cue "TORTURE" is mine and there will be a story about the making of TORTURE and it's case and matching J&B cue and many photos to go with it posted soon on Poolplayersparadise.com, it's a new site and to view these pics you'll need to go there and sign up. it's a good site and free and we're trying to get it off the ground, so take the 10 minutes it takes and go sign up before someone steals your screenname.
