Lagger's choice

I am going to join a Laggers Choice league, 8 ball, 9-ball, 10 ball, and wonder what is your preference or choice if you win the lag? As a middle of the road skill player, playing amongst elite players and maybe some not so good, I wonder what would be the best choice for me? I have played in 8 Ball and 9-ball leagues, but never 10 ball. What are the pros and cons of each choice?

The first reason to win the lag is winner has break if a match goes hill/hill. If your league plays races, then you want first break.

If your 8 ball league is "take what you make", you might consider losing the lag (sandbagging?).

The 9/10 ball leagues depend on whether they play push out. If you are sure your opponent can make a ball on the break and possibly run out, then you want to win. But, very often, you will push or play their push which leads to more wins than your break.

Good luck.

When I played in a lagger's choice league in NAPA, sometimes the races were different. Maybe 9 ball was a 5-3 race while 10 ball might be 6-3. Something else to think about.

No need to lose the lag on purpose. The winner of the lag gets choice in every format I've played in that utilizes the lag.

If you hadn't had the opportunity to practice on the particular table you are playing on, the lag gives a lot of information you need. In addition to watching other players play on it, the lag will teach ypu speed, straightness, cushion reaction etc.
