If it is covered before ,please refer me to those threads.
My question is, with laminated tips, how much of the layer do you leave?
IE, when do you decide to shape back to a new layer?
When you are at a new layer, how big an area do you have before you get to the 1st glue line? 6mm diameter? , 3 mm dia?
Or
Does none of the above matter at all. Just shape it and play with what you have?

Thankyou ,

Maybe I'm missing something, but I've never worried about the layers when shaping a laminated tip. I'm rather fussy about my tip shape, usually giving it a light sanding every second night. I've had Moori, Talisman, Kamui, Wizard, Sniper, Hercules and Super Pro and never noticed the position of the lamination rings making any difference in the tip's performance.

Most layered tips have 10 or 11 layers and you cannot shape them without getting into one or more of the layers. Depending on the dome shape (nickle or dime) you will see at least two or three layers (glue lines) at the top of your tip. These will make no difference in how the tip plays or hits.

You should not worry about it. Just shape it like any other tip. The only acception is some tips will lose that first top layer for some yet unexplained reason. Experience will tell you which ones and you need to cut that whole layer away or it will pop off later. I will say that those particular tips are still one of the best tips out there and are plenty tall enough to lose that layer without missing it.
