Landon Shuffett in Chattanooga

I had the pleasure of watching 11 year old Landon Shuffett this weekend in Chattanooga, as he showed up to play the monthly tournament at Diamond Billiard Club. Although many roadies and excellent players were in attendance, Landon was the star of the show. His 7th-8th finish in the tournament (same as me :D ) shows the level of his game's advancement.

I first saw Landon when he put on an exibition at the Derby 3 or 4 years ago. Then, he was an entertaining 7 year old with a good stroke. Now, he has evolved into an excellent player and will soon be a major force in men's pool.

He is a compliment to pool, with an outstanding attitude and pleasant demeanor. His father Stan should be complimented for the work he has done to help Landon to keep his head where it should be. I can't imagine the pressure he feels with an audience every match, watching every shot and applauding every good shot and game won. And at all at the ripe old age of 11. Amazingly, he handled the situations perfectly, never losing his temper or showing any negative emotions. He was always upbeat, acting as though it was an honor to be put into this situaton.

If any members ever get a chance to see him play, by all means take the time. It's worth the effort to see and meet him.

Good post, Mike. It's great to see talented young blood coming up, especially with good attitudes.

Congratulations to you for your finish, too! That spot keeps getting bigger. :p

I agree wholeheartedly! Landon has also been talking some lessons from one of my player reps, John Brumback. Johnny called me a few weeks ago to tell me how happy he was with Landon's progress and suggested I add him to my "stable" of player reps. I'm just waiting for John, Stan and Landon to make the trip to my shop, so I can get him outfitted with some "Sherm Cues". Hopefully they will bring his game up another notch! ;) I'd certainly be proud to add him to my team! He's a great player already and has the potential to be one of the greatest! And as mentioned, he has his head on pretty straight! His attitude reminds me of the Filipino greats! He never seems to lose composure and is a good student I'm told also!

just more hot air!
