As a pool player I sometimes feel larger than life. I imagine myself as this low profile pool hustler everytime I walk in the pool room. I also see myself as mad scientists at the practice table. I feel like a pro in a tournament. Pool has a way to take a guy out of his average Joe reality and transcend him into a fantasy world. Walking into a pool Hall with my cues I feel like I'm a soldier with a M-16 on my back ready for battle. The one on one competition, the gambling the personalities, and the emotional roller coaster that we ride.
All the talk about the hustlers ( tru TV - real hustlers) made me think about this feeling pool gives a guy of being larger than life. I would like to know if others feel the same and give examples and your explanation for this phenomenon. I want to better understand why I'm the way I am.
 
It's called ego and is the key ingredient that allows a fly to land in a spider web, believing he can fly out of it.
Unless you're walking into a poolroom full of beginners, there is always someone around that never jumps up on shots, has a real smooth stroke and has analyzed and become good at the several different ways to take apart a player in a game. The hustler carries the big break crushing cue, the jack rabbit jump cue and the custom with 4 shafts.
Go ahead and chase after your dream, but always remember there are more lions in a poolroom than lambs and there's a reason for that.

I remember the first night I showed up for APA as well
 
I know exactly what you mean. The other night I came home from the pool hall with a pocket full of cash, brimming with confidence. Brimming, I tell you.
I walk up to my girlfriend and tell her I'm thinking about proposing. She says, "Neil", so I get down on one knee.
She yells. "Get up dumb-ass, I was just thinking about somebody else." :smile:
