Just an FYI, I finally secured my .com domain after a company had reserved the name and held it for ransom

last4ever.com will now get you to the web site as well as last4ever.net

Thanks to AZBr's for all the support

Joel,

You bring up a point worth emphasizing to people. If you are anticipating getting a new domain, don't be spending a lot of time doing lookups to see if the name you want is available. Somehow or other, "they" can monitor what new domain names are being looked up and "they" will register it before you have a chance to get back to your ISP. Then, as you discovered, "they" want a fee to sell it to you, even though "they" never had any intentions of using it.

I don't exactly know who "they" are, but it seems that you were a victim of this.

Just an FYI

Gary

P.S. I use my Last4Ever a lot - a handy dandy tool to own.

Yes it is a scam. They will not even pay for the domain, but keep puttng 24 hour holds on it like they intend to buy the domain name. They do this over and over with thousands of domain names.

Yup

Yeah, when I created the web site the URL was not available so I went with the .net

I think there is a band that is lastforever so the speculators tied it up

Then I started getting emails about a year later asking me to bid on the URL but they refused my offers and told me it would be $350 to get the URL

After a few emails and phone calls I told them that I was fine with my .net web site and for them to leave me alone

They kept dropping the price until it got down to $45 and I bought it. Worth it to me and I guess if they do enough it makes them money as well

It seems to be a cottage industry... Welcome to the web

Thanks for the props on the tool... I appreciate it

That is called GAMBLING, when the World Wide Web Started, many spent pennies on buying names, got ownership. Made a KILLING selling what they OWNED!.

Oh .. I'd thought last4ever was being held up by latest cure for erectile dysfunction :grin-square:

Only if you grab some duct tape and use it for a splint... :)

I'll need to add some pics to my website of the alternative uses
