Last Pocket rule question

I didn't know there were set rules for last pocket 8-ball, I don't play it, but if I was making a rule for that I would say make it and call safe.
We had a big inhouse league, not bar box, and if a AA was playing a C, the AA had to bank the 8 in the side.
If the 8-ball was hanging in a corner or sitting anywhere on the table, you could call safe and spot it.

In our country incoming player must touch it in 3 attempts (if he see the ball directly)
Interesting situation, I don't think I've seen this as a question on here that I can remember.
Without knowing the rules, I would make pocketing it a non-loss shot, but a safety attempt where the 8 gets spotted, and the other player shoots it from where the cueball is. So you can make the 8 and play the cueball to land against the rail somewhere where it would be tough to make in the other guy's pocket.

Never played, but perhaps like nine ball with designated pockets, whoever had to knock it in would spot it for the other player that then takes it where the cue ball lies.
This would make each player attempt a valid shot hitting a rail after contact without making the eight ball, until someone mistakenly makes it in.
There's usually a "3-Rail Kick" rule in Last Pocket 8-Ball to cover this situation. If the 8 is hanging in the jaws of a non-last pocket, the player can shoot a minimum 3-rail kick to pocket the 8 into the non-last pocket and still win the game.
That's how they play in Mexico too, where they play a lot of last pocket. It's basically a three-foul rule.
I played a lot of last pocket with an older guy in my pool room. He was about 89 the last I played him. Sometimes he would shoot the ball to his pocket and let it hang just to toy with me and chuckle alittle. If I shot at it and missed the ball he would take a long stroke and miscue on purpose just so I could try and get the ball out of his pocket without making it. I usually lost.

I'm familiar with this rule since we come from the same country :wink: I rarely played that way but it does make sense. In this situation, however, it just forces the incoming player to lose without giving him/her any real chance.
A good idea but impossible in this case, as we play on coin-op bar boxes, so there's no spotting. What we basically do is just take the 8 and place it the closest possible to either upper or lower center diamond, so it's touching the rail. It has worked for us so far but I was wondering what other people who play last pocket do in this scenario.
Another interesting rule, I never would've thought of it. I guess that's fair as three-rail kicks do require skill.
