I am trying to get the spindle out of my old Craftsman/Atlas lathe, do any of you have a repair manual or how do you do it?

I'd suggest you call-in a friend who is considerably more mechanically inclined than yourself. If you don't know what you're doing you could do some damage. Not trying to be smart, just honest.

thanks...

Thanks KJ you are right. I did get it apart, no damage. Thanks! Now time to steam clean and put back together! One more step closer to making dust!

You can always find some good info here too

Thanks for posting this Mike, it looks like a wonderful site. Nothing really on the Atlas 6" which is what I am interested in (just started a restoration myself :) ), but good info on the 9" and Atlas in general.

Did i read that right? You are going to steam clean a machinist lathe?

Let's hope it has babbit bearings, not the Timkin version

no...

I am not steam cleaning it, just using a degreaser. What kind of grease do I need to relube the tapered roller bearings?

Is there a place like AZ that would have answers to these questions?
