Oil all of your ways before use. Any metal to metal contact where movement takes place. A touch of oil every now and then in between the chuck jaws. I disengage the belt from the pully mount when I'm not using it.With most running machines there is Preventive Maintenance.
What if any is there on a Hightower Lathe?

That pretty much covers the stuff that needs lubricated. Also blow the dust out of your motors and keep an eye on the DC motor brushes. They need replaced once or twice a year with moderate to heavy use.
