Lathe Workbench / Desk

I am looking to put one of my lathes in a soon to be open pool hall and would like to know if you have any suggestions on the type of workbench or desk I could use? I would need several drawers and would like to have it strong enough that I can install wheels in case I want to take it to do cue repair at one of the local tournaments. Size is not a problem.

If you want drawers and wheels then buy one of those inexpensive mechanic tool chest like Home Depot sells. In my earlier years I bought two and bolted them together and took it to tournaments for years. They only cost a little over $100 each and can be totally locked up when not in use.

I think it would really depend on what type of lathe you are going to be using.

I currently use Chris' Mid-size lathe but will be upgrading shortly to his deluxe lathe. Chris I talked to you by phone a few weeks ago and you mentioned you are a little behind on your orders right now. Has that list gotten any shorter? Ha Ha....

I use a Mid-Size from Chris right now also and will be purchasing the Deluxe this year.
What I did was take a 5' wood folding table, made a wall with a plexiglass window to seperate the customers from the lathe. I added a light, powerstrip and a banner. I simply wingnut the lathe to the table and I'm in business.

It works great for what I'm doing; however, I think I have outgrown it and am going to build a little bigger one this summer. Where are you located at?

No good news here. The list is getting longer every week. People are spending their income tax refunds on lathes right now, so the wait should not get any shorter until summer. If you want a Deluxe get a deposit together and get in line.

Excellent industrial work benches with really high load capacities and modular construction are available from IAC Industries. Being industrial the benches will last a lifetime but cost a fair dollar. The most surprising thing about IAC benches are how good they look. The IAC website is www.iacindustries.com.
I am going to purchase some of their benches in about 6 months.
