This may be a dumb question as I may get an obscure answer, but I will ask anyways. This question is to the big 3. Have you ever purchased back your oun equiptment through an auction of some sort. I could see some real benifit in this. From a marketing view I would certainly start off biding untill My product reached what I thought was an acceptable bid. Otherwise it would be like a slap in the face. It would be like making a $2000 cue and only getting $200 for it. Any Thoughts??

I don't think I have ever bid on any used equipment of mine that was selling. I have offered to buy some of my used lathes back to resale. But Ebay always gets more than I would want to give. But I have bid on some used cues that I built. Figured if I got them back cheap enough I could still make a buck on them. They never went cheap enough though.

It sounds like "shill bidding", and eBay had an express rule against the practice. It's dirty pool.

That interesting, I have never heard of that, "shill bidding". It does make sence. I have found that when dealing with money there is no paticular safe ground though. The big question then is shill bidding wrong? I dont know? I dont think that I have ever explored this topic. What about selling and bidding on stocks? Im sure that there is a lot of "Shill Bidding" taking place there. Anyone care to shed light on this topic. Currently Im undecided on this topic because I dont know enough about it. I do see some obvious pros and cons depending on what side of the coin your on.

Let me clarify. I think that if I placed an item on an auction and then bidded on that item so I could make more money,---This would be wrong, Hence the term shill Bidding?? But say I just happened to run across an item on an auction and it was something I made. Something that I slaved over, something I worked really hard and long to produce, would it be wrong to bid up the price to build my reputation. (is this still shill bidding) I dont Know?? what if I won the item and payed for it?? Interesting?? What if someone found out about this, would it hurt the reputation??? risk?? risk?? risk??

I may be wrong, but I don't think you understand the question. It is my understanding that the poster is giving the example of a q-maker bidding on a cue made by him, but belonging to someone else he has NO relationship with. That's not shill bidding, that's just bidding plain and simple, no matter what his motivation is.

That was My understanding, and I'm pretty sure It was Chris's also. I don't see how that's shill bidding either. He's only going to bid what he knows he can make a profit on, which will probably be less then others would pay anyhow. I don't see the intent there at all. Shill bidding from My understanding is when someone bids on their own Item or has someone else do so in order to drive the final bids up Higher then they may normally end at. Unless I'm missing something:confused: . If someone feels the attempt is to hype their product, I would feel the same way- If someones goes around paying too much from a private seller for their own stuff, then they are not making a profit anyway, so why bother. They would basically be giving the owner a partial refund for depreciation If you want to really get technical.:D

"This question is to the big 3". Since I am one of the Big 3 in reference:D - I have no reason to bid on my used equipment. Used Equipment holds its value better than that Chevy your driving. As Chris stated you only loose about 10-20% when you sell your equipment as used. I have seen Chris's machinery go for about $200 under retail, and if you buy from him or I, you get a Warranty. No need to bid at all, and I do not anticipate bidding in the future...
