Laying The Cue On The Table & Alignment

ok, once again tonight i am struggling with the medium length draw shot as in the diagram below. so, i laid my cue down on the tablie as i addressed the ball, and just set it right where i thought it was aligned perfectly. this is represented by the line connecting Point A and Point B.

then i back off, walk around to the front of the table, and look back, and i can tell i am off. but it looked perfect to me when i was setting up for the shot. so i then tinker with the cue while it laid on the table, once again getting it to the point where i think its aligned perfectly straight. and when i check it looked slightly off the other way.

i said to myself "No Wonder I Miss These Shots" and just went about the business of getting it straight. when i got it to look straight, i sort of "Stepped Into" the shot, trying not to really move the cue, getting it where i thought it was when it was just laying on the table.

i shot, and of course, i missed.............:(

Joe Tucker talks about this. From what I understand, he thinks that people are often not really aiming on the line they this they are. He developed a laser aiming tool to help you drill in the correct alignment. If you have not been to his site and watched his videos, you should take the time and do so. www.joetucker.net
 
Laying your cue on the table and letting go of it To align a shot is illegal.
You must keep your hand on the cue. Now if it is just to practice and learn I guess that's okay. But not in a game that matters Please.;)
 
Why not just aim the center of the tip to the center of that object ball?
Or to the center of that pocket even?
 
If you are cutting it to one side, just adjust until you're making it even if it looks off. Shoot a couple more times until you've really grooved the shot, then you've got to trust that it's aligned properly and see if there's something wrong with your stance that makes it look off.

For me, a long straight-in shot can look slightly off, and I know I'm not completely nuts because Joe Tucker mentioned the same thing in one of his videos.

Also use donuts so you're setting up exactly the same shot.

where are you lining the shot up from, to the side of the cuestick or from behind? As part of my preshot i stand behind the shot, straddling the line of the shot (an imaginary line runs from the object ball thru the cueball and thru me), then i kind of pivot down into my stance.
 
After reading this post, along with many others, including your decision to get help from Scott, I can only say that Scott will have his work cut out for him!!! You need to put your cue away, clear your mind, wipe away the insanity, and then let Scott get you on the right track. Forget everything you THINK you know about pool, and allow Scott to go to work. And it's going to take more than 4 hours!
If you can get in that class with Randy and Scott this weekend, you will get 24 hours (3 days, 8 hours per day) that can
turn your game around, if you let it.
