LBM vs Juma ferrules?

Your opinion on these two, what you prefer and why?

Lbm.
I like a really old-school clean white ferule as compared to the slightly yellow-ish juma ferule.

I use to play with a Jeff Olney cues with 2 shaft, one lbm and other juma ferule

Also i prefer the lbm becoz i "feel" it hits harder whereas juma hits slightly softer.

However Jeff prefers the juma and hes reason was it stays cleaner but personally i do not agree as i hate the yellow-ish dirty look over time n i prefer the clean white color of lbm.

Whatever it is, it shldnt be a problem if u use the magic ferule cleaner regularly.

That said, i feel its really subjective so try both and see what u like.

Good luck :)

It really depends on what tip you use and taper of the shaft. Juma is lighter so for deflecting purposes would be lower. I've had both and like them both. With the Juma I prefer a harder tip and the opposite with the LBM.

Is Micarta (non-GE ) an option nowadays?

If ya're talking about the westinghouse micarta preferred by many cuemakers from the good ol days , then NO.
sadly, only a few cuemakers were smart enough to foresee it closing .
Richard Harris of Bluegrass kept a stash and has been using that as his ferule material for a long time that i know of.
I love the hit of micarta ferule over anything else.

So many factors missing from the OP.
Is it a capped or uncapped ferrule?
Threaded or non threaded
If threaded, what threads and whats the size of the tennon?
What's the length of the ferrulle?
Where do you get you LBM?
In comparison to Juma, LBM is hard and heavy.
I see no need for LBM on playing cues, as Juma is plenty tough.
I prefer my Juma ferrules capped and threaded and I keep them fairly short, with a decent sized tennon.
If I want a harder material than Juma, I prefer Tomahawk over LBM.

Thank you Kim,
This material has been an amazing find that only happened after many months of research, and the graciousness of Bob Dzuricky, who spent several months confirming my suspicions. I also owe a debt of thanks to Joey Bautista who was the very first cue maker whose advice led me not to abandon my project, and continue pressing forward. Eric Crisp from Sugartree, and Jeff Cole of GMCole cues also gave me some very positive initial insights as to the material that I found. It is absolutely the perfect ferrule material IMO. It is light, has a pleasing color, incredibly strong, and once final sanded/polished, it is virtually impervious to chalk...Best of all, it is produced right here in the United States. I would like to thank the many cuemakers who have tried the material, and joined the Project Tomahawk team. It has been my sincere pleasure to have made the acquaintance of so many tremendously wonderful folks. I would also like to give a shout out to: Remy, Tommy D, Brent Hartman (BHQ cues), Kimmo H, Neil from Conetip, Bob Danielson (BD cues), Kim Bye, Paul Drexler, Jeff Olney, Joe Kascal, Eddie Cohen, and so many others. If I missed anyone out there, you have both my apologies, and my sincere thanks/gratitude.
All the best.

I like lbm, non capped when you can find it.Lot of lbm now seems to be pitted.

Juma is a fine ferrule material, but the hit is softer than lbm.

I dont care much for LBM, it is heavy, hard to keep clean unkess sealed and too hard in my opinion. Juma gives a good hit that is slightly on the soft side. Tomahawk is a little lighter than juma and has a more distinctive, firmer hit.
I'd go from there if I were you, Juma for a softer hit and Tomahawk if you prefer a harder hit.

Yes. I have a thread in the cue machinery and supplies section. Please read it carefully as the prices have been recently updated. The international shipping and handling terms are clearly defined.
Thank you.

Juma is not lighter than LBM.

Juma stays cleaner as it's non porous. It's also yellowish as noted.

A capped Juma will hit much softer than a capped LBM.
LBM will have a distinct ping if paired with a hard tip.

And configuration as factors . Not everyone makes ferrules the same way.
A non-capped LBM with big tenon ( over 5/16 ) with a carbon fiber or clear tip backing will hit much differently than a capped 5/16 18 threaded LBM.
LBM does need be sealed but will eventually show chalk dust/pits.
Juma won't.

Lots of good points Joey, construction method plays a huge factor in feel and sound.

Not sure what kind of LBM your using, but the Melamine I use is heavier than Juma. I've seen both weighed in front of me and the Melamine was clearly heavier. I know there are different types.
