Tonight was supposed to be the start of the new usapl session but it was cancelled. Since I was already there I decided to work with my ex girlfriend on her game since she was joining my team...she is an apa 3. She had been overcutting shots lately and I figured out it was her stance and helped her work on her stance and aiming.
Later on a former apa teammate...another 5 like me wanted to play me some. Being a person that is not a real serious player ...until playoffs ir higher league tournaments I asked my ex girlfriend if I could shoot with her cues which were already out instead of unpacking my case . She said sure. Her playing cue is a predator blak 4 will th a 314 cat shaft that I had given her...took it on a trade cause I just could not pass up the deal even though I prefer maple shafts. Her break cue is a 200.00 McDermott jump break that I bought her.
Well we decided to play 8 ball . When I started to break the first rack I looked on the table and did not see any chalk. I said the heck with it and broke anyway. Then I started shooting while never chalking her cue. We played 6 racks before I decided to quit because it started snowing and I was heading home. I won 4-2 shooting with an ld shaft I was unfamiliar with and never used chalk.
My opponent ...who I have played with and against for 7 years commented on how I was exploding the rack and sinking 1-2 balls every break. I told him it was due to her break cue. It breaks a heckuva lot better than my bk 3.
Last night I played apa 8 ball vs a girl who is a 4. I have never played her but knew of her through her 2 brothers who were very good players and suspected she was pretty good for a 4. My suspicions were confirmed when I played a pretty good safe and she proceeds to grab her break cue and made a darn good full cue jump. She made 2 more good jumps during our match which I finally won. After our match I asked her what kind of cue she was jumping with. It was a 100.00 player with the factory leather tip. Wtf ?? The only cue I have ever had that i could successfully jump with was an Alex brick jump break that I wish I had never gotten rid of. It cost 3 times what she paid for that players.
What's the point if my post you may ask. Well 2 things.
1. I played as well as I did under the above circumstances due to one thing. Focus. I knew I had to pay attention to every shot like it was the most important shot I ever made ....or be embarrassed by my opponent and I can't stand to lose to him because he always brags to anyone who will listen that he won against me. We have always had a sort of friendly rivalry....sort of. Just cant stand when he brags lol.
2. Whether you play with a 100.00 players or a 1,000.00 dollar custom....you gotta know how to use it.
