League suggestions NJ

Hey, lots of great info here and passionate players. I'm back to the game after not playing for 10-15 years. Just got a home table a while back and have been having fun practicing and playing a few neighborhood games. I don't know what my ranking would be, but to be honest, im probably a mediocre player, but getting better. Now, I'd like to get into some league play.

So my question for any NJ members out there is: any suggestions for a decent league where a player of moderate ability could play, contribute to a team and have fun. I'm in north central NJ

What town in NJ are you in? There's an APA of Middlesex and Union County. Pretty much all of the host locations are bars/taverns with one 7 foot coin op table.

Also, I believe there's a TAP league in Middlesex County. I think Sandcastle Billiards in Edison is a host location. Sandcastle is a nice room with well maintained 9 foot tables.

Both TAP and APA would be good leagues to get started in.

Check out Rockaway Billiards. They have the best practice deal I've ever heard of. They also hold Tri-State tour stops about once a month on Sundays. Unless you're willing to travel to the city, your best bet would be APA. I think Tony Robles' NAPL has a night at Clifton Billiards. I live in Rockaway and play Megabucks (BCA) on Sundays at Society Billiards, and NAPL 9-ball singles on Friday nights at Steinway.

If you like playing on 9 footers and don't mind traveling there is an APA league at Players Billiards in Eatontown, NJ, exit 105 off the parkway.

Good crowd, very generous practice time. Monday' is 8 ball. Tuesday is 9 ball and Masters and Thursday is the Double Jeopardy night (8&9 with the same team). Might be too far to travel for you but there might be some lurkers here that might be interested. New session starts on Jan 9. Start times are 7pm. Just show up you'll find a team.

Sandcastle Billiards in Edison on Rt.1 is probably the closest for you.
Call Ed Liddawi, the owner.
He's starting up some new weekly events and he'll fill you in on all the details.

Thanks everyone, terrific info and insights. I'm in Watchung. So, Edison is doable, for, instance, would prefer something closer. Watchung, Warren, Scotch plains, Fanwood. Those familiar with the area get the idea.

There is or was a poolhall on 22 in the Scotch Plains area. You can go there & see if they have any leagues.
