League vs Tournaments...

One more week of league and I am done with it for a while. here is a list of pros and cons I can come up with League vs Tournaments.

Tournaments are better because... you pay 10 bucks and even if you lose you get to play 2 matches and get to go home right afterwards. With league you pay 8 bucks and play 1 match and sit there from 7 pm to 11:30 pm.

Tournaments are better because... you only have to rely on yourself showing up (esp if you are the captain of the league team)

Tournaments are better because... you have a chance to win money every week instead @ the end of the session.

League is better because... you have a chance to win an all expense paid trip to vegas.

League is better because... you can sit and bs with your friends while the other matches are being played.

Tournaments are better because... you are at the same pool hall every week. (this of course excludes in house leagues)

Tournaments are better because... you don't have to keep detailed information when you or your team plays.

Tournaments are better because... If you get sick or have something that has to be done you don't let down your team mates by not showing up that week (esp if you are the team captain)

Think of any others?

leagues are good because you'd get to players you wouldn't normally play in tournaments

Tournaments are good(not better) because you'd get to players you wouldn't normally play in league

League is good because somebody(not yourself) keeps your statistics for you so if you like you can chart your progress.

League is good for team play. I find that helping others with thier game is helpfull for identifying problems in your own game.

Tournaments are good because you don't have to worry about the performance of your teammates.

Tournaments are better because you get to play higher quality players

Tournaments are better because you own your own outcome.

League play is better because you get to wear a glove and not be made fun of :-)

Based upon my extremely limited experience, I'd say that it is easier to win in league play but more gratifying to win in tournament play.

i too like both.
what i like about leagues is that you get to meet interesting people all the time. with tournaments you usually see the same peeps. but i find tournaments to be more exciting although league playoffs are fun too. plus in tournaments you don't really have that pressure of your team counting on you so if you make any mistakes or lose it wont affect anyone unless of course theres a side bet.

Tournaments provide a really excellent opportunity to win a little extra money (about $100 to $200) in smaller tournaments. With the odds and statistics for the better players at their level, virtually no other tournament provides anywhere near as good of odds.

Leagues give you a lower percentage opportunity to win larger amounts of money.

Leagues provide a little extra comraderie amongst players on your team and other teams, while comraderie in tournaments is much more varied and dependent on the attitude of the individual.

Leagues provide an excellent way to learn tips and tricks from a coach to help to develop your personal game.

Tournaments are virtually useless for a low quality player. Just donate the money and watch instead, cuz that's the only value they'll get anyway.

Leagues provide statistics that can be used to help determine how your game is progressing over time. These statistics can be used to demonstrate a more finer level of progress.

Tournaments are an excellent way to double check and gauge whether your game is actually improving. When your league stats show improvement, tournament performance is a good gauge of how much improvement.

Leagues also provide additional tournament opportunities. Opportunities for extra tournaments can be nice, rather than the essentially same old tournaments at an average local bar.
