Leagues: The fix

I think you are in a severe minority if you think the table should not be open off the break.

I would not be so sure about that. Maybe on AZ we are the minority, but if you polled the average player (who is not really all that good by the way), they probably would disagree with you assuming they even cared in the first place.

No disrespect intended with my comment. All I am saying is don't assume that AZ is truly representative of the majority of people who play pool.

If you said, the majority on AZ billiards, then I would agree with you.

Because pool needs more luck right? Now you need to hope that the correct ball goes down on the break?

It's a rule. It applies to everyone. If APA has such bush-league, no talent players, why is it such a problem for all the GREAT players that frequent AZB to be able to make a game out of whatever they get on the break? You ought to be running all over the (cue voice of disdain, dripping with venom) "APA player."

Sheesh.

One silly little rule, and people get all worked up about how it isn't "real pool". As if that's all the matters, and if it can't be open on the break, then the pool gods shall strike us all down for such heresy.

Oh yeah, might as well add the "mark the pocket" gripe as well. It is SUCH an inconvenience to drop something on the rail before shooting. Oh the horrors... invoke the pool gods again, and let the smiting begin!

It's very simple. You are invited to play a game, and here are the rules you need to play by. Have fun, and good luck.

Just about anyone in a bar game will ask you why you're shooting at a striped ball because you made two solids on the break. Most non players out drinking that put thier quarters up on the table play that way.

Good point, LeagueGuy. No disrespect meant from me either, Celtic.

BCAPL tournaments are games won, not points. Team matches are a race to 13 games won. VNEA is points.

your reply is why they say 2 people can read a book and you will get 2 different opinions of what the moral of the story is. nowhere in my post did i say that i like luck.

i am fine with take what you make on the break. in fact i love it because its more of a challenge to run out versus the option of getting your choice.

it seems to me that weaker players would rather have an open table than have to kick, bank ,masse, or make a hard cut on their next shot. for the record i dont like the slop rule in apa but its there. idont see much slop in my league except for some 3s and under. hell i have seen pros make a slop shot, they give their opponent an im sorry look but they keep shooting. if my opponent makes a few slop shots it just makes me more determined to out shoot their luck when its my turn at the table.

hope you read all of my post where i stated i like playing all leagues and that they all have pros and cons. i dont bash any league but will get on here and give my .02 cents when somebody comes on here with that mine is better than yours crap.

celtic, i play multiple leagues and open tournaments so i am not here to bash any league. The whichever suit you make is such a smal insignifigant part of the match, a good shooter such as yourself should be able to make another ball somewhere on the table and play from there or at least play a kick safe and get out next shot. Surely you never have a game more than 2 innings.
