Leather cord wrap?

does anyone remember that the name Stack wrap came from the idea of using stacked leather discs? I use this method to make handles for our mallets and when sanded and brushed the are smooth and perfect.

Joe Porper is one that comes to mind that used that method.

I was looking into buying the kit from Tiger and was thinking of putting in the time to be competent at this type of wrap. Wanted to know from those who have gone down this road as to if investing in this system is worth it. From what I could tell they are a lot more labor than a conventional leather wrap and people seem to get squeamish at the price of doing one. If this is to far unrelated to the thread at hand I can create a new thread.
Any opinions appreciated.

I had this type of wrap on a Bear cue I had. It was raw (not cut or sanded) and felt pretty good...tho it was thicker than the butt itself (1/2 mM).
