Hello everybody. I got another one for you. Since my new custom should be arriving tomorrow I am going to be in the market for a new case ( Unfortunately I wasnt thinking about the future when I bought my original 1x1 case). Im looking for a 2x4. Anyways I have been searching the web for a case as well as the local stores. I have come across a few candidates but one thing I need assistance on is on wether the case should be in vinyl or leather. I was at one of the local stores and there were two cases, one was a no name brand cowboy style leather case and the other was an Instroke vinyl Premiere case. Both around the same price but I wasnt sure as to which case would be the better buy. I really want something good to protect my cues but I also dont want to buy something that wont last. I know that leather is strong and durable but vinyl is more cost effective. Would anyone be able to tell me both the pros and cons of leather and vinyl? Also are their any recommendations on some cases. Thanks a bunch.

Leather is much stronger than vinyl....

Resale value should be higher for a Leather case

When a vinyl case is scratched it gets ugly and may need replacement..hehehe

when a leather case is scratched it get more character.... I have a leather case that has several dozen scratches and a friend of mine said... "Your case looks better with age"

Some vinyl cases looks just like leather... or vise versa....unlike some cases where once you see the case, you can tell ITS LEATHER like the Instroke Buffalo case...The Instroke cowboy series is pretty much hard to tell from leather or vinyl...

Qguy....loves leather cases !!!

I have the Instroke Cowboy hard leather case.
Very good case.
I also have the Silver Fox BR2, medium hard case. Leather lined and much lighter.
I used to have Guisseppe ( sp?). Very heavy but tore up at top easily.

I understand that leather is stronger than vinyl but in the instance that I had with the two cases in the store, would you rather have the no name brand leather case or the Instroke Premier vinyl. Im not really looking for resale value, im looking for quality and protection. Now if leather is the way to go then would you rather buy the no name brand leather case for a cheap price knowing that you are getting value over quality or spend twice as much knowing that you are getting quality over value? I really dont want to be spending more on my case than my cues.

Don't get those cheap Bentley leather cases.
Their brass studs come out easily. Piece of kaka.
A 2 by 4 Instroke costs about $275.
Now, if you are not rough with your cues/case, Silver Fox is a great option. I used it everytime now.

instroke is still the best production cases around. but if u got some extra cash, go for a justis or whitten.

Snookered <== owned 2 of them and very happy with them.

I went with the Geo line from Instroke and am happy with it so far. Good quality case with a price I could live with.

Instroke Premier!

A case is only as good as the protection it offers your cues. I wouldn't use a no-brand knock-off leather case if someone gave it to me, no matter how good it looks. I wouldn't use one if you paid me (unless you're paying me more than what I think my cues are worth!)

Also what would be the most practical size for the case. I just plan on bringing my playing cue with 2 shafts and a break/ jump cue. A 2x3 seems to be ideal but should I get a 2x4 just in case. I really dont know what I would need the extra shaft compartment for. Maybe if I had an individual jump cue but I dont because I already have a jump break cue. Decisions, decisions!

Have you looked at cases online or on Ebay? You might be able to find a instroke leather or maybe even a Whitten case on ebay for the same price of the vinyl instroke or the leather noname at retail. Prices on the net are alot cheaper and a case is not something you have to worry about buying online.

 I have a Instroke 2X4 case. I bought it several years ago. I like the 'plastic pipe' dividers, but the workmanship on the bottom part of the case leaves much room for improvement. The bottom cap on the case has become loose over time. It is only held in through the leather with small brass nails.

It should be said that I rarely wear it on my shoulder with the strap, and tend to lean on it when I am standing around shooting the breeze. I love the idea of a place to hold my cues standing up when I play.

I have recently purchased a soft leather 4X8 case on EBAY for around $65 plus shipping. I like it, but it doesn't hold my cues while playing.:)

There's a good reason why leather is more highly regarded than vinyl. It wears, ages, looks, and feels better.

It comes down to what you're willing to pay versus the quality you want. As with most things, you're not going to get a $50 case that is the equal of a $300 case. I bought a leather tube case for $90 on the Internet. When I got it, I realized that the leather was similar to what you'd find on a low-quality leather jacket. The fit and finish was acceptable, but far from breathtaking. My elephant-print vinyl Thomas is a much better case; probably as nice as you can expect a vinyl case to be. But if I compare my Thomas to something like a Whitten or one of Ron Thomas' leather cases, it's clear that my vinyl Thomas is still a budget model.
