leather wrap problem

I installed a leather wrap for a friend a little over a year ago. Today he brings his cue over, and the wrap just slides off. I use contact cement on all leather wrap installs. I've changed wraps I've installed before and had to rip them off with a vise grip. So I'm not sure what would cause the contact cement to let loose. Any ideas?

My first thought is he left it in the car and it got real hot. Then he tried to play with it and it came loose.

I would ask him what cleaner he used to clean it last. For one to come loose all the way like that, I would have to guess chemical.

My guess is that the cue wrap groove was sealed with something that is causing it to reject the glue.

He's a good friend and takes real good care of his stuff. He says he didn't leave it in the car, which I believe. If he did he would fess up. I used Chris's sealer under the wrap. It's a predator if that makes a any difference. The back side of the wrap and the handle both are more slippery than tacky at all. I'm replacing the wrap, no charge, but I'd like to try to figure out what happened.

If you could still smell the sealer on the wrap area then that could cause the non drying reaction with the contact cement. Sand it good and make sure you can not smell any chemical smell on the wrap area before applying the contact cement. Nelsonite fumes can even cause contact cement not to cure properly.
